Wolverines host Texas-Pan American Thursday

OREM, Utah--The Utah Valley University women's basketball team will host the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs on Thursday night in the UCCU Center at 7 p.m. MT.

The Wolverines (7-10, 1-1 WAC) will see the Broncs (10-8, 3-0 WAC) for the first time this season in their third WAC game. Utah Valley enters the contest following a 52-20 win against Grand Canyon, where sophomore Georgia Agnew connected on a game winning layup with 15.8 seconds left. The victory ended a two game losing streak for Utah Valley. Rhaiah Spooner-Knight leads the Wolverines with 13.4 points per contest while teammate Karlee Norris leads with 7.6 boards per game.

The Broncs are coming from a 3-0 winning streak, with a 77-60 victory over WAC foe Bakersfield. Bakersfield was selected by coaches and media to win the WAC in preseason polls. Shante Goff leads the Broncs with 16.1 points per game while Rickell Preston leads on the boards with 6.1.

"UTPA is a good team, they are very athletic and very aggressive defensively. The key for us will be to take care of the ball, if we give them points off of turnovers and offensive rebounds then we would really have to battle," head coach Cathy Nixon said. "We need to handle pressure, execute our offense and be able to contain their personnel. It will be a challenge but we are home and the girls will come ready to compete."

UVU leads the series against Texas-Pan American 8-12, but are currently on a two game losing streak, falling short to the Broncs in all WAC contests so far. Utah Valley's last win was Feb. 16, 2013 in Edinburg, Texas with a final score of 51-50. The last game in the series was a 55-46 Bronc win in Edinburg on March 1, 2014.
