CHICAGO—Paris Williams scored 28 points to lead Chicago State to a 60-55 win over the Utah Valley University women's basketball team Thursday night at the Jones Convocation Center in Chicago.

The Cougars (3-15, 1-4 WAC) regained control with six minutes remaining, 47-46, with a three pointer from Konner Harris. Another consecutive trey from Harris extended the Chicago State lead 50-46. Sam Loggins tallied a jumper and a layup, 54-52, and CSU ran for six more points. Rebecca MaWhinney put up a buzzer beating three in the final effort, to close the game at 60-55.

Loggins led the Wolverines (7-13, 1-4 WAC) with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Mariah Seals added 14 points, shooting 4-for-11 from the three-point line. MaWhinney contributed 10, Rhaiah Spooner-Knight finished with seven, and Georgia Agnew and Karlee Norris each finished with four to round out the Wolverine scoring. Agnew also added three steals on the night, while Seals and MaWhinney each finished with two. Seals, Agnew and Spooner-Knight each finished with four boards.

"Consistency killed us tonight, with our young team we have a lot of individual and collective ups and downs and it's hard to win basketball games when you're not on the same page for 40 minutes," head coach Cathy Nixon said. "Hopefully we can learn from this, we have another game on this road trip, so we want to be more consistent and compete for a win."

Behind 11 points from Paris Williams in the first eight minutes, Chicago State took an early lead, as high as 21-12 with 8:05 left to play in the first. The Wolverines suffered a scoring freeze that lasted over five minutes before two consecutive layups from Loggins and a jumper from Spooner-Knight broke the drought at 21-18.

Utah Valley chipped away at the Cougar lead highlighted by a huge trey from freshman Seals with two minutes remaining in the half. Loggins laid it in with 30 seconds remaining to give the Wolverines a 27-26 lead at the break, their first since the early minutes.

UVU continues road play at UMKC on Saturday Jan. 31 at 1 p.m. MT.
