Zach Nelson scored a team-high 16 points to lead Utah Valley in a 66-59 setback to Missouri-Kansas City Saturday night at the UCCU Center.

Utah Valley falls to 8-12 overall and 3-3 in WAC play with the loss. UMKC ups its record to 9-14 overall and 4-2 in league play.

"We thoroughly got out-played," said Utah Valley head coach
Dick Hunsaker. "We got beat in every facet of the game. I appreciate the enthusiasm that our crowd showed and the atmosphere our staff helped provide tonight."

After trailing by nine points, 17-8, at the 10:33 mark in the first half, Utah Valley went on a 16-8 run to close out the remainder of the period to take a 27-26 advantage into the break. UMKC bounced back and used a 16-2 run to take a 42-34 lead with 11:20 to play in the game. The Roos then maintained the lead through the remainder of the second half to secure the win.

Nelson scored his 16 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field. Nelson also pulled down five rebounds and dished out a pair of assists.
Mitch Bruneel and
Donte Williams were also in double figures with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Bruneel connected on 6-of-13 shots from the field and recorded seven rebounds.
Marcel Davis helped with eight points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

Martez Harrison and Reese Holliday led the Kangaroos with 17 points each. Harrison connected on five shots from the field, four of which were from long range.

Utah Valley now heads out on the road for a pair of WAC games next week. The Wolverines travel to play Bakersfield on Thursday, Feb. 5 before taking on Seattle U on Saturday, Feb. 7.
