SEATTLE, Wash.— Utah Valley's bid at a WAC regular season title fell just short as the Wolverines dropped a 1-0 decision to Seattle U in the regular season finale Saturday night at Championship Field.
Â
With the win, Seattle U (13-2-3, 8-0-2) clinches its third-straight conference crown and earns the No. 1 seed at next week's WAC Tournament in Bakersfield, Calif. Utah Valley (12-6-1, 7-2-1) finishes second in the conference standings and secures the No. 2 seed and a first round bye at the tournament.
Â
"It's obviously a disappointing result, especially with how well I thought the team played tonight," said Utah Valley head coach
Brent Anderson. "I have to give Seattle credit. They made the most of their limited opportunities. We are still in a great place for the conference tournament and I know the team will rebound and will be ready to compete in Bakersfield."
Â
Seattle U's Karli White scored the lone goal of the match in the 53rd minute as she received a wide cross from teammate Julia Moravec and put it in the back of the net for the game-winning score.
Â
Utah Valley created opportunities and out-shot the Redhawks 7-5, including a 5-3 shots on goal advantage.
Taylor Kirk led the Wolverines with two shots, both of which were on net.
Â
Utah Valley now preps for next week's WAC Tournament in Bakersfield, Calif. The Wolverines earned a first round bye and will face the winner of the first round match between No. 3 Missouri-Kansas City and No. 6 UT Rio Grande Valley on Friday, Nov. 6 at 4 p.m. PT/5 p.m. MT.
