CHICAGO, Ill.—The Utah Valley University women's soccer team scored early and often in a 7-1 road win at Chicago State Sunday afternoon at Ray and Joan Krok soccer stadium. The win gives the Wolverines a road sweep as the team downed UMKC 1-0 on Friday in Kansas City.
The win moves Utah Valley into a tie with CSU Bakersfield for the top spot in the WAC with seven points and a 2-0-1 conference mark. The Wolverines improve to 7-4-1 overall on the year. Chicago State falls to 0-11 with the loss.
"The team started off quickly and kept the pressure on Chicago State the entire match," said Utah Valley head coach
Brent Anderson. "I think we were a little unfortunate to be called for a penalty late in the match, but the team responded well and finished the match off with a number of good attacking opportunities."
Utah Valley scored four of its seven goals in the first 18 minutes of the match.
Kali Stubbs was first to get the Wolverines on the scoreboard as she fired a shot past the keeper in the ninth minute.
Kasandra Anderson assisted the goal.
Anderson gave the Wolverines a 2-0 lead in the very next minute with her third goal of the season. Stubbs tallied her second goal of the match in the 15th minute as she found the back of the net with help from
Taylor Kirk to put UVU up 3-0.
Sheridan Fox scored her WAC-leading sixth goal of the season in the 18th minute to give the Wolverines a 4-0 advantage.
Lexi Felis assisted the goal to help UVU take a 4-0 lead into halftime.
Breanna McCarter scored her first collegiate goal as she put the ball into the net in the 47th minute.
Sydney Fitzpatrick and
Sara Callister were each credited with an assist on the score.
Libby Weber continued the UVU scoring in the 51st minute as she beat the CSU keeper off the dribble after receiving a through ball from
Abby Jameson to extend the UVU lead to 6-0. Weber made it back-to-back goals in the 68th minute as she fired a free kick from 40 yards out, bending the ball into the near post for Utah Valley's seventh score of the contest.
Utah Valley returns home to open a four-game home stand at Clyde Field. The Wolverines will next host New Mexico State on Oct. 9 before welcoming UTRGV on Oct. 11.
