Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Utah Valley drops 75-62 decision at Denver

DENVER, Colo.—Konner Frey led the Utah Valley University men's basketball team with a 15-point, 12-rebond double-double in a in a 75-62 road loss at Denver Wednesday night at Magness Arena.

"I couldn't be more proud of our guys," said Utah Valley head coach Mark Pope. "They battled tonight. Now they played an incredibly far-from-perfect game. The 21 turnovers demolished us. We didn't shoot the ball well and we missed some easy shots but our guys put their heart out on the floor and they really battled and hung in there and kept fighting."

Utah Valley (1-2) got down early as Denver (3-1) jumped out to a quick 14-2 lead. Four made free throws from Frey and two more from Ivory Young cut the DU lead to six points, 14-8 with 12:36 to play. The six point DU advantage would be as close as the Wolverines would get as the Pioneers held onto the lead throughout the remainder of the contest to secure the win.

Frey recorded his game-high 15 points on a 3-of-10 clip from the field, including a pair of shots from long range. He knocked down 7-of-8 shots from the free throw line.

Darrious Hamilton scored a career-high 12 points with a career-high nine rebounds. The senor forward hit 4-of-5 shots from the field and went a perfect 4-of-4 at the charity stripe. Jackson also scored 12 points as he connected 5-of-13 shots from the floor, including one shot from beyond the arc.

Marcus Byrd led four Pioneers in double figures with 14 points. Duke Douglas and Nate Engesser each had 11 points off the bench while C.J. Bobbitt helped with 10.

Utah Valley returns home to host Antelope Valley on Friday at 7 p.m. The game will be played in the PE Building and will be broadcast live on ESPN 960 AM radio.
