OREM, Utah—The Utah Valley University men's basketball team continues non-conference play Friday night as the Wolverines welcome the University of Antelope Valley to the PE Building. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. MST.
Â
Antelope Valley (1-4) is playing its first-ever season of college basketball. The first-year program is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and plays in the California Pacific Conference (CAL PAC).
Â
The Pioneers lone win of the year is a 70-48 road win at West Coast Baptist. The team takes on Weber State Thursday night in Ogden before traveling to Orem for Friday night's contest. Junior guard Franky Teran leads the team in scoring at 13.8 points per game, while senior guard Bobby Johnson fronts the team in rebounding at 5.4 boards a game.
Â
"We're looking forward to Friday night," said Utah Valley head coach
Mark Pope. "It will be fun to play in the PE Building. The PE Building is a place where we played a lot of games as this program was coming up through the ranks and it will be fun to get back in there. Antelope Valley is a competitive team in its first season as a program and we look forward to the matchup."
Â
Utah Valley enters Friday's game against UAV with a 1-2 record. The team is a perfect 1-0 at home this season as both of UVU's losses have come on the road. The Wolverines dropped a 75-62 decision at Denver Wednesday night.
Konner Frey recorded UVU's first double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Darrious Hamilton and
Jaden Jackson also scored in double figures with 12 points apiece. Hamilton fell just shy of a double-double with nine rebounds against the Pioneers.
Â
Frey continues to lead Utah Valley in both scoring and rebounding as the junior forward averages 17.0 points and 9.0 boards a contest. Hamilton and
Ivory Young are also averaging double figures as both are averaging 10.0 points per game.
Â
Friday night's game will be played at the PE Building on campus as there is an event scheduled in the UCCU Center. The game will tip-off at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN 960 AM radio.
