OREM, Utah—The Utah Valley University men's basketball team will begin a four-game home stand on Saturday night as the Wolverines welcome UC Davis to the UCCU Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. MST.
Â
UC Davis enters Saturday's matchup against the Wolverines with a 2-2 record. The defending Big West regular season champions hold wins over Portland and Fresno Pacific. The Aggies are coaches by former Utah Jazz guard Jim Les, who led the squad to its first-ever postseason appearance last year.
Â
The Aggies dropped an 84-79 decision at Sacramento State Tuesday night in the team's first road game of the season. Junior guard Brynton Lemar scored a career-high 21 points to lead the Aggies in the setback at Sacramento State. Senior forward Josh Fox pulled down a UC Davis record 18 rebounds against the Hornets. Fox leads UC Davis in scoring and rebounding through four games this season at 17.0 points per game and 10.5 rebounds a contest.
Â
"UC Davis is really good," said Utah Valley head coach
Mark Pope. "Jim Les is a great coach and has done an amazing job over there. They have a really solid and explosive front line. It will be a real challenge for us, but we're excited to be back home playing in front of our fans. We look forward to it."
Â
Saturday night marks the fourth time that Utah Valley and UC Davis have met on the basketball hardwood. The Wolverines own a 2-1 all-time series advantage over the Aggies. Utah Valley won both games of a home-and-home series during the 2007-08 season before dropping a 64-43 decision at UC Davis last season.
Â
Utah Valley enters Saturday's game with a 2-3 overall record. The Wolverines return home where the team holds a perfect 2-0 record this year. UVU dropped an 81-55 decision at Utah State on Tuesday.
