Jaden Jackson scored a team-high 16 points to lead the Utah Valley University men's basketball team in a 65-50 setback to Saint Mary's Monday night at McKeon Pavilion in Moraga, California.

The game marks the final non-conference road game of the season for the Wolverines, who fall to 5-9 overall on the season. Saint Mary's improves to 11-1 with the win.

Utah Valley dug itself a quick hole to open the game, falling behind 22-4 halfway through the first period. The Wolverines shot a season-low 20 percent (6-of-30) in the first half as the Gaels took a 33-17 lead into the break.

The Wolverines came out firing in the second half as the team opened the period with a 10-4 run to cut the SMC lead to just 10 points, 37-27, with 17:41 remaining. Saint Mary's responded a 13-2 lead to secure a 54-31 advantage with 9:52 to play.

UVU was able to limit SMC to just one field goal over the final 8:34 and got as close as 10 points, 60-50, with 1:11 to play. The Gaels then went finished the game on a 5-0 run, going a perfect 5-for-5 at the free throw line over the final minute to secure the 65-60 victory.

Jackson tallied his 16 points on a 6-of-13 shooting performance. The senior guard knocked down 2-of-3 shots from long range and hit 2-of-2 shots at the free throw line. He also dished out three assists and pulled down one rebound in 35 minutes of play.

Marcel Davis and
Konner Frey each helped with nine points each on the night.
Alex Carr led UVU on the boards with seven rebounds to go along with six points, one assist and a block.

Utah Valley connected on 27.4 percent of its shots from the field while Saint Mary's recorded a 42.4 percent clip. The Wolverines held the Gaels to just 11.8 percent (2-of-17) shooting from three-point range. Entering Monday's game, SMC led the nation in three-point field goal percentage with a 47.3 percent clip.
Calvin Hermanson led three other Saint Mary's players in double figures with a team-high 16 points. Emmett Naar helped with 12.

The Wolverines now return home to wrap up non-conference play on Saturday, Jan. 2 against San Diego Christian. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
