College Insider Mid-Major Poll

OREM, Utah--Utah Valley University will travel to the Pacific Northwest to take on foe Eastern Washington on Thursday Dec. 3, and then travel to Eugene to see Oregon on Saturday Dec. 5.

OPENING TIP
Utah Valley (6-2) enters the competition after a split weekend at the Nugget Classic, where the Wolverines first defeated their second straight Mountain West opponent Nevada 73-65. UVU then dropped a 67-60 decision over undefeated SEC foe Alabama. The loss against Alabama ended a six-game winning streak for the Wolverines, their longest since the 2007-08 season.

Three Wolverines are averaging in the double digits in scoring, led by Mariah Seals with 14.3 points per game. Rhaiah Spooner-Knight is averaging 12.6 points per game while Rebecca MaWhinney rounds out the trio with 11.0. Senior Sam Loggins
leads on the boards with 5.3 per contest.

"This is just going to be another test of our progress and a chance for us to get better. These are two good opponents, who are both having good early seasons," head coach Cathy Nixon said.  "We will tackle the Eastern Washington test first, before we look to a very good Oregon team. We are looking forward to two good road games where we can work on our execution and try to improve as a team."

MID-MAJOR MINUTES
For the first time this season, Utah Valley is receiving votes in the College Insider Mid-Major Poll, and earned 20 points this week. Just two other WAC schools are receiving points in the poll, NM State and Seattle U.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Eastern Washington (3-4) enters the contest after dropping three straight at the Lone Star Showcase in Austin, Texas. The Eagles were defeated by Northwestern (74-70), East Carolina (80-62), and Creighton (66-60) last week. The Eags were picked to finish ninth in the Big Sky Coaches Poll and sixth by the media in the preseason.

The Eagles are led by the Hodgins' sisters, Hayley Hodgins and Delaney Hodgins, with 18.9 and 14.0 points per game, respectively. Junior Ashli Payne leads on the boards with 6.2 per game. The Eagles are averaging 63.9 points per game as a team, while allowing 63.0 points per game by opponents.

This will be the fourth meeting between the Eagles and the Wolverines, with the Eagles leading the series 3-0. Eastern Washington won the last meeting in Orem 68-62 on Nov. 14, 2014.

DUCK HUNTING
The undefeated Oregon Ducks (6-0) enter the contest against Utah Valley on a lopsided 104-74 win over San Jose State.  The game will be the sixth of what will be ten straight home games for the Ducks, who have only traveled to open their season in Chapel Hill, to defeat then No. 22 North Carolina 79-77.

The Ducks were voted to finish in eighth place in the PAC-12 Preseason Polls by both the coaches and the media. They are currently receiving votes in the USA Today and AP Top 25 national polls.

Oregon also has three Ducks scoring in double digits, led by Jillian Alleyne with 17.0 points per game. Lexi Bando contributed 15.7 points per game, while Lexi Petersen earns 12.7. Alleyne also leads on the boards with 13.2 per contest.
