Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Utah Valley downs Saint Katherine, 77-55

Orem, Utah—Zach Nelson led four players in double figures with a game-high 17 points to lead the Utah Valley University men's basketball team to a 77-55 win over Saint Katherine College Monday night at the UCCU Center.

Leading by just two points, 27-25, with 4:20 to play in the first half, Utah Valley went on an 8-3 run to take a 38-31 lead into the break. The Wolverines then opened the second half on a 10-0 run and never looked back, extending the lead to as many as 24 points to secure the win.

"Saint Katherine was scrappy, hustled and made some challenging shots from beyond the arc," said Utah Valley head coach Dick Hunsaker. "They came in and gave us a battle. Certainly a better feeling leaving the court as victors and hopefully we can build on this win as we re-enter WAC play."

Utah Valley shot an impressive 55.2 percent from the field with six made threes. The Wolverines held Saint Katherine to a 31.3 percent clip. UVU out-rebounded the Firebirds 50-27.

Nelson scored his 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field, including a 1-of-3 mark from long range. He also knocked down 2-of-4 shots at the free throw line. He tied a season high with four blocks, pulled down five rebounds and registered two assists and a steal.

Marcel Davis tallied 14 points in the win. He was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field, including a perfect 1-of-1 from beyond the arc. Davis tied a career high with eight assists to go along with six rebounds. Mitch Bruneel added 12 points in the win, connecting on 6-of-11 shots.

Donte Williams and Jaden Jackson were also in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Jackson's 10 points matches a career high. Dayon Goodman had a career night, setting career marks in points (7), rebounds (8), assists (2), blocks (1) and made field goals (3).

Senior guard Dante Miller led Saint Katherine with 16 points.

Utah Valley returns to WAC play on Saturday as the team travels to Phoenix to take on Grand Canyon. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. (MT). The game will be broadcast live on the WAC Digital Network at WACsports.com/watch.
