Zach Nelson scored a career-high 29 points to lead the Utah Valley University men's basketball team to a 74-69 win over Bakersfield in the team's regular season finale Saturday night at the UCCU Center.

The win came on Senior Night at UVU as seniors
Mitch Bruneel,
Brenden Evans and
Chad Ross were honored in a ceremony prior to the game.

Tied 12-12 just six minutes into the game, Utah Valley went on a 14-0 run to take a 28-14 lead with 9:06 to play in the first half. The Wolverines took a 39-29 lead into the break.

Bakersfield went on a 12-0 run midway through the second half to cut the UVU lead to just two points, 57-55, with 8:16 to play. The Wolverines answered with a 9-2 run to take a 66-57 lead with four minutes to play. Utah Valley was then able to hold on to the lead for the 74-69 victory.

Nelson scored his 29 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including a 7-for-11 clip from long range. He also knocked down 6-of-6 shots at the charity stripe. The seven three-point field goals is just one shy of the UVU single-game record of eight. The sophomore forward also pulled down nine rebounds and dished out five assists.

Donte Williams and
Marcel Davis were also in double figures with 19 and 11 points, respectively. Williams hit 6-of-9 shots from the field, including three made shots from beyond the arc. Williams also tallied three rebounds, three assists and a pair of blocks. Davis was a perfect 2-for-2 from long range. He had a game-high six assists with two rebounds.

Aly Ahmed led Bakersfield in scoring with 17 points.

As a team, Utah Valley knocked down 14 three-point field goals, falling just two short of the current UVU single-game record of 16. The Wolverines connected on a 51.2 percent clip from the field.

Utah Valley heads into WAC Tournament play next week at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. The fifth-seeded Wolverines will take on No. 4 seed Bakersfield on Thursday at 3 p.m. MT.
