OREM, Utah – Behind 15 hits and 17 runs, Missouri-Kansas City took game two of Friday's Western Athletic Conference doubleheader over Utah Valley University, 17-3, at Wolverine Field. With the victory the Kangaroos swept the twin bill, as they previously defeated the Wolverines by a score of 11-7 earlier in the afternoon.

In a wind and rain-filled game two, errors were the difference as the Kangaroos (26-24, 6-7 WAC) scored 11 unearned runs on five Wolverine (16-35, 3-11 WAC) miscues.

UVU was the first to get on the scoreboard in the nightcap, as it put up a pair of unearned runs of its own in the last of the first inning.
Morgan Smith scored the first run after reaching on an error, stealing both second and third and coming home on a throwing miscue by the 'Roos catcher.
Brianna Gatlin later singled in the inning, swiped a bag of her own and scored on a sacrifice fly from
Jaylen Watson to make it 2-0 UVU.

The lead didn't last long, however, as UMKC countered with a run in the second, eight in the third and seven more in the fourth to put the game away.

Brittney Vansway added her second home run of day in the last of the fourth for the Wolverines by pulling a solo shot down the left-field line, but it wasn't enough as Kansas City held on to take the nightcap 17-3.

Kailey Christensen (1-8) started in the circle for UVU and suffered the loss after giving up four earned runs (nine total) in 2.2 innings. Cinda Ramos gave up just three hits and one earned run (three total) as she went the distance for UMKC to improve to 8-5 on the year.

Vansway led the way for the Wolverines at the plate by going 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored, while Katie Kelley paced the 'Roos with a 2-for-3 outing with two RBIs, two walks and a run scored.

The loss marks the sixth straight for UVU.

Utah Valley will look to salvage a game of series when it takes on UMKC in the final WAC and home game on the season for UVU on Saturday at noon. The contest will mark Senior Day for the Wolverines, as three seniors --
Kelli Gendlek,
Megan Peay and
Erin Romero – will all be honored prior to first pitch.
