Wolverines drop finale at No. 5 Oklahoma, 14-0

OU’s Paige Parker threw a five-inning perfect game in the contest as she retired all 15 batters she faced.

NORMAN, Okla. – The fifth-ranked Oklahoma Sooners completed the two-game sweep over Utah Valley University with a 14-0 run-rule victory at Marita Hynes Field in Norman on Sunday. OU starter Paige Parker threw a perfect game in the contest as she retired all 15 batters that she faced.

Parker shined in the circle all game long as she struck out 12 of the 15 batters that she faced en route to throwing the perfect game. The Oklahoma ace tied an NCAA record on Sunday by tossing her fourth perfect game of the season. Parker, who is one of the top pitchers in the nation this season, improved to 24-5 with the victory.

OU (45-7, 14-2 Big 12) started the scoring in the second when Whitney Ellis and Kelsey Arnold hit back-to-back home runs to give the Sooners a 3-0 lead. Oklahoma then loaded the bases the following inning and managed to push home three more runs to extend its advantage to 6-0. The Sooners then capped their scoring in the last of the fourth thanks to a two-run homer from Nicole Pendley, a grand slam from pinch-hitter Paris Townsend and a two-run shot from pinch-hitter Jessica Vest.

In all the Big 12 Sooners, who entered the weekend third in the nation in hitting with a .367 batting average and fourth in home runs with a 1.86 per game clip, slugged out five long balls in the ballgame.

Ellis and Pendley paced the OU offense in the contest by each going 2-for-2 with two runs driven home.

Just three Wolverines (16-38, 3-12 WAC) put the ball in play on the afternoon, as Taleigh Williams lined back to the pitcher in the second, Tiani Hensley fouled out to first base in the third and pinch-hitter Dynasty Lauvai fouled out to the catcher for the final out in the fifth.

Bailey Moore (10-19) suffered the loss for UVU as she gave up six earned runs in two-plus innings of work.

The Wolverines will now return to Utah for their regular season finale at BYU on Tuesday, May 5 at 5 p.m. Following Tuesday's rubber match at BYU, UVU will head to Las Cruces, New Mexico, for the WAC Tournament that will run Thursday to Saturday, May 7-9, at New Mexico State. The Wolverines, who will enter the tournament as the five seed, will open play against No. 4 Seattle U on Thursday, May 7 at 11 a.m.
