OREM, Utah -- Austin Buxton's goal gave the green team a 2-1 advantage over the grey squad in Utah Valley University's annual intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday at Clyde Field.
Buxton scored in the 61st minute -- of the abbreviated 70-minute match -- rebounding his own shot to score the game-winner.
Donnett Sackie scored the game's first goal when he fired a shot off the left post and in to put the green team in front 1-0. His goal came in the 27th minute and was the only scoring in the first half.
Lucas Cawley tied the match for the gray team in the 40th minute on an assist from
Paul Hoffmeister.
"This was an important match for our team. We've got a lot of depth and it showed tonight. We had qualities on both sides of the ball; some great finishes and at times we defended very well," UVU head coach
Greg Maas said.
The Wolverines, 8-0 winners over Westminster in an exhibition on Wednesday, will open the 2015 season in Massachusetts next Friday, Aug. 28 at UMass in Amherst. UVU will also face UMass-Lowell on Sunday during the two-game trip to the Northeast.
