UVU TRAVELS TO CALIFORNIA TO FACE STANFORD, CSU BAKERSFIELD
OREM, Utah – The Utah Valley University wrestling team will return to dual action in California this weekend to face-off against a pair of Pac-12 foes in the Stanford Cardinal on Friday in Palo Alto and the CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners in Bakersfield on Saturday.

The Wolverines and Cardinal will open the weekend with a 7:30 p.m. MT/6:30 p.m. PT contest on Friday evening at Stanford's Burnham Pavilion, while UVU and CSUB will go head-to-head the following night at the Icardo Center at 7 p.m. MT/6 p.m. PT. Utah Valley will enter the weekend with a 3-3 overall record (0-0 Big 12), with wins over No. 18 Oregon State, Boise State and Michigan State. Friday's match will mark UVU's first dual meet since Nov. 28 when it recorded a 22-12 home victory over the BSU Broncos of the Pac-12 Conference.

Last weekend, six Wolverines won titles at the ninth annual UVU Open. Senior 133-pounder
Jade Rauser, junior
Trevor Willson (141 pounds), sophomore
Jordan Karst (heavyweight) and redshirt freshman
Will Sumner (184), as well as unattached freshmen
Jacob Armstrong (174) and
Tanner Orndorff (197) each won a respective championship in their weight class at the Open. Rauser, Karst and Sumner led the group with identical unblemished 5-0 records, while Willson finished 4-0 and Armstrong and Orndorff each went 3-0.

Eighteenth-ranked senior and 2015 NCAA qualifier
Chasen Tolbert (125) leads UVU on the season with a 12-3 record. The three-time NCAA qualifier Rauser is next with a 10-4 clip, while fellow 18th-ranked senior
Derek Thomas (197) holds a 9-3 record.

ABOUT STANFORDThe Cardinal, who is currently ranked 16th nationally on the InterMat tournament rankings, will enter Friday's dual with a 5-2 overall record and a 1-1 Pac-12 clip. Stanford holds its wins over Cal Poly, Chattanooga, Cal Baptist, San Francisco State and Menlo College while its two setbacks have come to No. 1 Penn State and Bakersfield. Just last weekend, the Cardinal recorded three of its five wins, as it defeated Cal Baptist 25-10, SF State 30-11 and Menlo 42-6.

Freshman Joey McKenna paces Stanford, as he'll enter Friday ranked second in the nation at 141 pounds with a 12-1 clip. Jim Wilson (15-4) is next as he finds himself ranked 12th at 165, while Keaton Subjeck (11-5) is 19th at 174 and Connor Schram (11-3) is 20th at 125.Â

Friday's matchup between the Wolverines and Cardinal will be the fifth all-time meeting, as the series is currently tied at 2-2. The then 25th-ranked Cardinal defeated UVU in last year's meeting by a score of 28-6 in Orem.

ABOUT CSU BAKERSFIELDCSUB is 6-2 overall and off to a 2-0 start in Pac-12 action with league wins over Stanford and Cal Poly. The Roadrunners also hold victories over Gardner-Webb, Anderson College, Cal Baptist and San Francisco State on the season. Just last week, Bakersfield defeated both Cal Poly and SF State by respective tallies of 26-9 and 32-12.

Bryce Hammond (174) and Reuben Franklin (197) are both ranked in the top-20 of the latest InterMat poll for the 'Runners, as Hammond comes in at eighth with a 13-3 record while Franklin is currently ninth with a team-high 22-5 clip. Ian Nickell (141) is next for CSUB with a 20-8 record.Â

Saturday's contest will mark just the third all-time meeting between the Wolverines and 'Runners, as the series is tied at one win apiece. Utah Valley recorded its victory over CSUB at the Stanford Duals on Nov. 30, 2013 by a score of 19-16.Â

UP NEXT FOR UVUThe Wolverines will return home to face their third consecutive Pac-12 foe on Thursday, Jan. 21 when Arizona State comes to town. The UVU and ASU dual will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be televised live on UVU TV.Â
