Utah Valley downs Chicago State in the Windy City, 82-76

CHICAGO, Ill.—Jaden Jackson scored a game-high 22 points to lead four other Wolverines in double figures as the Utah Valley University men's basketball team defeated Chicago State 82-76 Saturday afternoon at Jones Convocation Center. The win completes UVU's first conference road sweep since 2014 as the Wolverines also defeated UMKC on Thursday night.

With the win, Utah Valley improves to 9-11 overall and 3-2 in WAC play. Chicago State falls to 4-19 on the season and 0-6 in league play.

"What a great week this was for our team," said Utah Valley head coach Mark Pope. "There was a lot going on in this game. We were in a very quiet gym with an early start time. It's been a long road trip with a lot of planes, trains and automobiles. All that stuff added up to make this a different feel for us, which we knew it would. I'm so proud of how our guys battled through all that stuff and came away with the win."

Down by eight points, 33-25, with 3:30 to play in first half, Utah Valley went on an 8-2 run to cut it to just a two-point CSU advantage, 35-33, at the break. UVU opened the second half with a 28-10 run to take a 61-45 lead with midway through the final period. Chicago State fought back and tied the game 74-74 with 1:25 to play. Konner Frey was fouled on UVU's next possession and hit both free throws with one minute to go to give UVU a 76-74 advantage. The Wolverines then went 6-for-6 at the charity stripe and made some key defensive stops over the final minute to secure the win.

Jackson scored his 22 points on 6-of-15 shooting from the field, including a 4-of-9 clip from long range. He also went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line and dished out three assists.

Konner Frey registered his third double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds. The junior forward hit 4-of-8 shots from the field, including a perfect 3-of-3 mark from beyond the arc. Frey was also a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.

Senior guard Marcel Davis also tallied a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Davis also dished out a team-high five assists. Cory Cardwell came off the bench and knocked down a pair of threes for his six points.

Ivory Young and Hayden Schenck were also in double figures on the night with 14 and 11 points, respectively.

Utah Valley knocked down 15-of-30 shots from three-point range which ties the season high mark set in the win over UTRGV earlier this season. The 15 made shots from long range ties the team for the second-most threes ever recorded in a single game in UVU history.

The Wolverines out-rebounded Chicago State 40-29 on the night. UVU was perfect from the free throw line, hitting all 17 of its free throws.

Utah Valley now returns home to host Seattle U and CSU Bakersfield next Thursday and Saturday at the UCCU Center.
