OREM, Utah—Rebecca MaWhinney recorded a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Utah Valley University women's basketball team to a 74-46 win over Chicago State Saturday afternoon in the UCCU Center.

Four players scored in double figures for the Wolverines (9-11, 2-3) led by Sam Loggins, who finished with 13 points and added eight rebounds and five blocks. Mariah Seals added 12 points and Patrice Toston contributed with 11 points, six assists and four steals. Jessica Cerda led the Cougars (2-18, 0-6) with 16 points.

" We had a great sense of urgency getting up and pulling down rebounds today. We also shared the ball well, which was evident by how many players scored in double figures," said head coach Cathy Nixon. "The key moving on is going to be to continue sharing the ball. The girls are beginning to play better and hopefully we will carry the offense over to next week."

The Wolverines outrebounded CSU 45-25 with 13 coming on the offensive glass. UVU also shot 50.9 percent from the floor including 8-of-12 (66.7 percent) in the third quarter.

UVU jumped out quickly, scoring the game's first 11 points on the strength of a trio of 3-pointers. Chicago State trimmed the lead to six, 21-15, by the end of the opening quarter.

Jessica Cerda hit a couple of quick three's narrowing the Wolverines lead to two points early in the second quarter. From there, UVU limited the Cougars to just 2-of-16 from the floor the rest of the quarter and took a 38-25 lead at the half.

The Wolverines extended their lead to 23 at the end of the third. Taylor Gordon's bucket with three seconds left in the quarter capped a 10-2 run to end the frame.

Utah Valley led by as much as 30 in the fourth quarter taking a 74-44 lead on a bucket from Hadley Nielson. The Wolverines had a 38-16 edge in points in the paint and got 22 points from their bench.

Utah Valley hits the road to take on WAC foe Seattle U on Thursday, Jan 28 in Seattle. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. MT. followed by a game at Bakersfield on Jan. 30 at 2 p.m. MT
