Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

UVU earns fourth straight shutout, ninth overall, at UMKC

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Utah Valley University earned its fourth straight shutout – and school-record ninth of the season -- in a 2-0 victory at UMKC on Sunday in WAC men's soccer. Skyler Milne also recorded the Wolverines' second brace in as many games, scoring both UVU goals.

UVU (11-3-0, 4-1-0) got four saves from Mitch Jensen, who has been in goal during the entirety of the Wolverines' four-match win streak. The 11-3-0 start marks the program's best 14-match record in its three-year history.

"Sunday matches are difficult for everyone on short rest, and tonight wasn't pretty, but it was a well-earned result," UVU head coach Greg Maas said. "We got two big goals from Skyler and another clean sheet from Mitch and the boys."

Milne scored in the seventh minute and then on a penalty kick in the 67th minute as Utah Valley – which is ranked No. 21 by TopDrawerSoccer.com -- wrapped up the first half of league play.

The first goal was Milne's fourth game-winner of the year and came on a free kick by Aaron Meyer from about 25 yards out. Milne lunged forward and got his head on it, threading it past the Kangaroos' (2-7-2, 1-2-2) keeper into the lower left corner.

The penalty kick marked the second brace of the season for Milne, and the team's fifth following Paul Hoffmeister's third two-goal output in Friday's win at Air Force. Hoffmeister's seven goals lead the team while Milne now has six on the year.

Of the final five regular season games, three will be at home where Utah Valley is a perfect 5-0-0 on the year. The Wolverines are 5-2-0 in true road contests with this weekend's trip serving as the final two-game road weekend of the season.

"The road is never easy and we look forward to returning home to Clyde Field on Friday against HBU," Maas said.

Friday's match against Houston Baptist starts at 7 p.m. MT. The Wolverines travel to San José State two days later for a Sunday afternoon contest in the Bay Area.
