UVU HOME FOR PAIR OF WAC CONTESTS
Utah Valley University returns to Clyde Field for a pair of Western Athletic Conference matches beginning Thursday at 7 p.m. against CSU Bakersfield. The Wolverines also host the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley on Saturday at 7 p.m. Both games will air live on the WAC Digital Network.
"This team has been on the road four of the past five weeks and that has been challenging to say the least," UVU head coach
Greg Maas said. "Our depth has been tested due to injuries, but we're getting healthier, and the experience should benefit this team as we get deeper into conference play."
UVU (7-3-0, 0-1-0) fell 2-0 at Seattle U in the WAC opener for both teams last week. The Wolverines dropped to No. 24 in both the TopDrawerSoccer.com and College Soccer News polls while falling from the NSCAA Coaches Poll for the first time since the first week of the season. Utah Valley also comes in at No. 15 in the NCAA's Offical RPI this week.
"Make no mistake, we need a strong response from our opener in Seattle, and returning home to Clyde Field and our 12th Wolverines is exactly what this team is looking forward to," said Maas.
ABOUT THE ROADRUNNERS
CSU Bakersfield (2-8-0, 0-2-0) opened the WAC schedule with a 3-1 loss at UNLV before a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Seattle U in Bakersfield two days later. The 'Runners and Wolverines have split three matches all-time, going 1-1-1 in those contests. Utah Valley won the first meeting, in 2014 in Bakersfield, 3-1. In the 2014 WAC Tournament in Seattle, CSUB shut out the Wolverines, 1-0. The teams played to a scoreless draw last season in Bakersfield. Thursday marks the first time the 'Runners will play in Orem.
ABOUT THE VAQUEROS
UT Rio Grande Valley (2-5-1, 0-1-0) hosts UNLV in WAC play on Thursday night prior to coming to Orem for Saturday's match.
