UVU set to take on New Mexico State at WAC Tournament

UTAH VALLEY SET TO DEFEND WAC TOURNAMENT TITLE
The Utah Valley University women's soccer team takes the No. 4 seed into this week's WAC Tournament in Kansas City, Missouri. The defending WAC Tournament champions will take on fifth-seeded New Mexico State on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 3 p.m. MT.

Utah Valley (9-7-2, 3-3-1) had its four-game unbeaten streak snapped last week in a 3-1 setback to Seattle U in the team's regular season finale. The Wolverines wrapped up regular season play having won two of its final three matches. The team also went unbeaten in four of its final five matches of the season.

The Wolverines hold an all-time 3-2 record at the WAC Tournament since joining the league in 2013. Utah Valley went a perfect 2-0 at the tournament last year with wins over UMKC and Seattle U. UVU holds an all-time 1-1 record in first round games at the tournament. The team had a first-round bye in last year's tournament.

Alexis Peterson leads the Wolverines with five goals this season. DeWaal and Kirk each have four goals this year, while Breanna McCarter and Sydney Fitzpatrick each have three. Abby Jameson has two goals and eight other UVU players have recorded one goal this year. Freshman Breanna DeWaal leads the Wolverines with 64 shots, including a team-best 22 shots on goal. DeWaal, Kirk and McCarter lead the team with four assists apiece. Nielsen leads the team in the box with a 6-3-2 record and three shutouts. She has 48 saves and owns a .787 save percentage on the season.

As a team, Utah Valley has netted 31 goals while allowing opponents 22. The Wolverines average 16.7 shots a match with a .383 shots on goal percentage. The Wolverines are holding opponents to a 1.22 goals per game average. UVU also holds a 300-195 shots advantage and a 98-76 edge on corner kicks.

UVU AT THE WAC TOURNAMENT
The Wolverines hold an all-time 3-2 record at the WAC Tournament since joining the league in 2013. Utah Valley went a perfect 2-0 at the tournament last year with wins over UMKC and Seattle U. UVU holds an all-time 1-1 record in first round games at the tournament. The team had a first-round bye in last year's tournament.

ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
The WAC's top six teams earn spots in the WAC Tournament. As the regular season champion, Seattle U earns the top seed and a first-round bye. CSU Bakersfield finished second to finish earn the No. 2 seed and a first round bye at the tournament. UMKC finished in a tie for third and holds the No. 3 seed this week. Utah Valley finished fifth in the WAC standings with a 3-3-1 record and enters the tournament as the No. 4 seed. New Mexico State is the No. 5 seed, while UT Rio Grande Valley is the sixth seed.

UTAH VALLEY'S HOME UNBEATEN STREAK HALTED AT 14 MATCHES
Utah Valley dropped a 1-0 decision to CSU Bakersfield on Oct. 7 in the team's WAC opener at Clyde Field, snapping the Wolverines' 14-match home unbeaten streak. The setback marked Utah Valley's first loss at Clyde Field since the team dropped a 2-0 decision to Seattle U on Nov. 1, 2014. UVU has only lost four games over the past three seasons at Clyde Field.

EXTRA TIME
Utah Valley holds a 2-2-2 record in its six overtime matches played this season. Utah Valley has played three straight overtime matches. UVU dropped a 2-1 decision in double overtime at Grand Canyon on Oct. 9, defeated UT Rio Grande Valley 1-0 in overtime on Oct. 14, and tied New Mexico State 2-2 in double overtime on Oct. 16.

HOME SWEET CLYDE FIELD
Despite its Clyde Field unbeaten streak coming to an end at 14 matches on Oct. 7, UVU has enjoyed tremendous success on its home pitch. The Wolverines have lost just three matches at home over the past three seasons, posting an impressive 22-3-4 record. UVU holds an all-time 67-33-10 mark at home since the Wolverines became a Division I member in 2003. UVU went unbeaten at home last season with a 9-0-1 record. The team extended its Clyde Field unbeaten streak to 14 matches with its 2-1 overtime win over Grand Canyon on Sept. 26 before it was halted with a loss to CSU Bakersfield on Oct. 7. The Wolverines ranked 24th (1,074 per game) nationally in attendance at Clyde Field last season. UVU ranks 18th in the nation in attendance after welcoming an average of 1,149 fans through the gates this season.

UVU RANKED NO. 10 IN NSCAA TOP-10 WEST REGION POLL
Utah Valley remains in the No. 10 spot in the NSCAA West Region Top-10 poll.  UVU is ranked No. 10 in this past week's poll after dropping a 3-1 decision to Seattle U, which moved up to No. 4 in this week's poll. The Wolverines have been ranked as high as No. 8 in the poll this season.

UTAH VALLEY'S HOLDS SECOND-BEST RPI IN WAC
After debuting at No. 82 in the NCAA's first RPI release of the season on Sept. 19, Utah Valley now holds the No. 148 RPI rating in the country, according to the NCAA. UVU holds the second best RPI in the WAC at 148 behind Seattle U's 115 ranking. UVU is followed by CSU Bakersfield (193), Grand Canyon (205), UMKC (228), UTRGV (294), New Mexico State (300) and Chicago State (329).

UVU IN THE NATIONAL/WAC STATISTICAL RANKINGS
UVU freshman midfielder Breanna DeWaal holds the highest individual national ranking on the team as she ranks 60th nationally in shots per game at 3.56. Freshman keeper Brooklyn Nielsen ranks 96th in the nation with a .985 goals against average. She also ranks 146th nationally with a .787 save percentage. DeWaal leads the WAC in shots (64) and shots per game (3.56). As a team, UVU ranks second in the WAC in shots (301), assists per game (1.44) and corner kicks (98). UVU ranks third in assists (26) and points (88).

KIRK CLIMBING ALL-TIME UVU CAREER CHARTS
Senior forward Taylor Kirk ranks in the top-10 in three different all-time UVU career statistical rankings. Kirk is tied for second all time with seven game-winning goals, just one away from tying the all-time best mark of eight set by Jenni Clough in 2008. Kirk ranks ninth all-time with 15 career goals. She ranks eighth all-time in points with 42. Kirk also ranks tied for 12th on the all-time career assists chart with 12. Lexi Felis has also entered the charts as she is tied for sixth in games played with 80.
