SEATTLE, Wash.—Brendan Westendorf knocked down a 25-foot three-pointer as the buzzer sounded to give Seattle University a 72-69 win over Utah Valley Saturday night in a Western Athletic Conference matchup at KeyArena.
 
The heartbreaking loss drops Utah Valley to 12-16 overall on the season and 6-7 in league play. Seattle U secures no worse than the No. 3 seed at the WAC Tournament with the win, improving to 13-14 overall and 7-6 in WAC play.
 
"My guys played great tonight and they played hard," Utah Valley head coach 
Mark Pope said. "This is one of the toughest matchups we have in this league. The guys played great basketball, especially in the first half where we had the pace going the way we like. Seattle made a big shot at the end of the game and credit to them. Our team has improved so much since the last time we play this team and I couldn't be more proud of the effort they showed tonight."
 
Utah Valley led by 14 points, 36-22, with six minutes to play in the first half. Westendorf then capped off a 12-2 SU run with a three at the buzzer to cut the UVU lead to a 38-24 advantage at the break.
 
The second half produced six ties and 13 lead changes as the two teams went back-and-forth. Down three points with six seconds to play, Utah Valley's 
Ivory Young hit a three from the corner to tie the game, 69-69. Westendorf then dribbled the ball up the floor and made the shot from beyond the arc as time expired to secure the win for the Redhawks.
 
Konner Frey and 
Ivory Young led Utah Valley with 17 points apiece. Frey hit 6-of-12 shots from the field, including a career-high 4-of-8 clip from long range. The junior forward also pulled down four rebounds, dished out four assists and recorded a steal in 31 minutes of play. Young scored his 17 points on 6-of-13 shooting, including five three-pointers.
 
Marcel Davis and 
Dayon Goodman were also in double figures with 14 and 10 points, respectively. Davis made 6-of-11 shots from the floor, including a pair of threes. He also registered eight rebounds and six assists. Goodman knocked down 5-of-11 shots on the night with five rebounds.
 
Utah Valley connected on 44.3 percent (27-of-61) of its shots, including a 42.4 percent (14-of-33) clip from beyond the arc. SU hit 47.5 percent (29-of-61) of its shots on the night.
 
Westendorf led Seattle U with a season-high 21 points. William Powell was also in double figures with 18 points.
 
Utah Valley will wrap up WAC regular season play on Saturday, March 5 against Grand Canyon at the UCCU Center. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. MT. The game will be broadcast live on the American Sports Network.
