LONG BEACH, Calif. – With Utah Valley University softball holding to a 5-1 lead over Iowa State of the Big 12 Conference on Friday afternoon at the Long Beach Louisville Slugger Invitational, play was halted due to rain and the game will officially go down as a no-contest. The ballgame will not be made up.
 
Following a 9-2 setback to Cal State Fullerton earlier in the day, UVU (4-19) looked primed to snap its losing streak against the Big 12 Cyclones (12-8). Following a Brianna Gatlin home run and a Hailey Kofler double, the Wolverines jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the fourth. ISU then struck back with a run of its own in the bottom of the fourth before play was stopped due to rain.
 
The Wolverines will look to conclude play at the Louisville Slugger Invite on Saturday at noon MT/11 a.m. PT against No. 14 UCLA (weather permitting). Following Saturday's weekend finale against the ranked Bruins, UVU will return to Orem for its 2016 home opener against in-state foe Utah State on Tuesday, March 15 at 2 p.m. at Wolverine Field.
