Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Utah Valley defeats Oklahoma on the road, 1-0

NORMAN, Oklahoma—Taylor Kirk's first half goal led the Utah Valley University women's soccer team to a 1-0 shutout road win over Oklahoma, snapping the Sooner's 11-match home unbeaten streak Sunday afternoon at John Crain Field.

"We did well to hold off a great opponent. I thought we had a few more opportunities in the first half than they did and didn't quite capitalize on as many as we should have but we got the one that was important," said Utah Valley head coach Brent Anderson. "I'm very pleased with the way the team played and organized today."

The win pushes UVU's record to 3-1-0 on the season. The loss is the first of the season for Oklahoma, which falls to 2-1-1 on the year. Prior to Sunday's setback to the Wolverines, OU's last loss at John Crain Field came back on Nov. 14, 2014 against Arkansas in the NCAA Tournament.

Kirk found the back of the net in the 16th minute after making a move past the OU keeper and firing a shot with her left foot to an open goal just out of the reach of an Oklahoma defender.

Oklahoma just edged the Wolverines on shots, 11-10, but UVU tallied six shots on goal compared to OU's two. Breanna DeWaal led the Wolverines with three shots, including one on net.

Brooklyn Nielsen was credited with the win in the box in her first complete match of the season.  The freshman keeper recorded a pair of saves in her first start of the year.

Utah Valley returns home to take on UNLV on Friday, Sept. 2 at 7:30 p.m. MT. The Wolverines hold a 10-match unbeaten streak at Clyde Field.
