OREM, Utah – Skyler Milne scored on a header in the 77th minute as No. 19 Utah Valley University topped CSUN, 1-0, on Saturday night at Clyde Field. It's the third straight shutout for the Wolverines (6-1-0) and second consecutive 1-0 win after Thursday's victory over 20th-ranked Gonzaga.
Â
The goal was Milne's fourth of the season, tying him for team high honors with
Paul Hoffmeister, while his 11 points now leads the WAC.
Â
"It was a fantastic match. We knew with limited rest it was going to be tough game. Northridge is a very good side, they move the ball well," UVU head coach
Greg Maas said. "We created some opportunities and finally got a tremendous goal with great execution on a ball by
Joe Barakat and a fantastic finish by our captain,
Skyler Milne."
Â
Milne's header ricocheted off of the fingertips of CSUN keeper Kevin Marquez and into the side netting. Barakat and
Karson Payton both assisted on the goal.
Â
Utah Valley limited the Matadors (2-4-0) to just two shots on goal. They were the only shots on goal allowed by the Wolverines in two wins this week. UVU finished with 12 shots, six of which were on goal, while CSUN totaled seven shots.
Â
The Wolverines hit the road next week with games at Sacramento State and UC Davis. It wraps up a string of three straight games against Big West Conference teams and also marks the end of non-conference play.
