UVU HOME TO HOST UMKC, #12 AIR FORCE
Utah Valley University returns to Clyde Field for the first time since the WAC opener for games against UMKC on Thursday at 5 p.m. MT and Saturday at 7 p.m. MT against No. 12 Air Force. Both games will air live on the WAC Digital Network and are part of men's and women's doubleheaders.Â
SERIES HISTORY
The Wolverines are 2-1-0 all-time against the Kangaroos and 3-0-0 all-time against the Falcons. UVU won both matches last year on the road and by identical 2-0 results.Â
MAAS ON RETURNING HOME
"We've spent the first two weeks of conference play on the road, so it's nice to return home where we can look forward to getting back on-track," UVU head coach Greg Maas said. "Our start has been less than desirable, but don't ever count this team out. I have seen a resurgence in this team's focus and determination, and I am confident that we'll respond with a purpose this coming weekend."
LAST TIME OUT
Utah Valley suffered a heartbreaker in the first of two WAC games last week. The Wolverines and Incarnate Word seemed destined for overtime but a goal in the waning seconds by the Cardinals gave the home team a 2-1 win. Gui Leme scored to give the Wolverines a lead before UIW tied it up in the second half and, eventually, got the game-winner with just seven seconds to go. Two days later, UT Rio Grande Valley broke open a scoreless game at the half with three second-half goals in a 3-0 win.Â
ABOUT UMKC
UMKC (4-4-3, 2-1-0) opened WAC play with two home wins, over UTRGV and Incarnate Word, before dropping its most recent contest, at Houston Baptist, 1-0. Kansas City travels to Seattle U for a match on Saturday. Senior forward Eric McWoods is currently second in the WAC with seven goals scored.Â
ABOUT AIR FORCE
Air Force is having an exceptional season, entering the weekend a 9-1-1 overall and 3-0-0 in the WAC. The Falcons, who are ranked 16th or better in each of the four national polls, travel to Seattle, which is also ranked by College Soccer News, for a showdown between the two remaining unbeaten teams in league play. Air Force boasts one of the top defensive teams in the country, having allowed just four goals so far this season and is fourth in the nation with a .356 goals against average.Â
