RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Utah Valley University suffered a 1-0 setback Sunday on the road at California Baptist. UVU falls to 4-11-1 overall and 3-2 in the WAC while the Lancers improved to 12-3-1 and 4-2 in league play.
"I think that the Lancers executed their game plan better than we did and that's the reason that the result was the way it was today," said Coach Lemay. "We had a little bit of unfortunate as well and we had chances on our side today but it didn't happen."
Cal Baptist got on the board in the 36th minute with a shot from just inside the 18-yard box by Michaela Miller. The Wolverines had a few chances to tie it up on a header by
Alexis Peterson in the 55th minute that went just wide and a shot by
Sadie Brockbank in the 75th minute that was saved by Carissa Christensen.
The Wolverines trailed 1-0 at the break but were unable to score the equalizer. Utah Valley outshot the Lancers 19-10, including a 5-4 advantage on goal but were unable to capitalize. The Wolverines also had the upper-hand on corner kicks 5-1 over California Baptist.
"We definitely played much better in the second half and we would've saw the chance to get a better result if we played the way we did in the second half for the whole game," said Coach Lemay. "At this level, if you only show up only for half the match you're going to get beat."
The Wolverines continue their season at home against WAC-leading Kansas City at 7pm MT at Clyde Field.
