UVU hosts WAC leader UMKC on Friday night at Clyde Field

UTAH VALLEY HOSTS UMKC, TRAVELS TO GRAND CANYON
The Utah Valley University women's soccer team continues WAC play this week as the Wolverines host WAC leader Kansas City on Friday night at Clyde Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.  UVU will then travel to play WAC foe Grand Canyon on Sunday in Phoenix, Arizona at 2 p.m. (MT).

The Wolverines head into Friday's match after splitting a pair of games last week. The team defeated CSU Bakersfield, 3-0, before falling 1-0, at WAC newcomer California Baptist. Senior forward Alexis Peterson scored a pair of goals in UVU's win over CSUB on Senior Night at Clyde Field. The two goals were Peterson's first goals of the season. Peterson scored the game winner in the 14th minute on assists from fellow seniors Linley Brown and Breanna McCarter. Peterson then scored her second goal of the season in the 53rd minute. Sadie Brockbank finished the scoring against CSUB with her team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 66th minute.

With another goal last week, Brockbank continues to lead the Wolverines with 17 points this season, collecting a team-best seven goals with three assists. Whitney Paskins follows closely behind with four goals and one assist for nine points. Peterson, Sara Callister, and Julianna Carter each have two goals, followed by Amber Tripp, Breanna McCarter, and Leesa Stowe with one goal each. Brockbank, McCarter, Tripp, Stowe, and Brown front the team with three assists apiece. Brockbank leads the team with 45 shots, including a team-best 19 on frame. Brooklyn Nielsen has played 11 games in the box, while Sarah Davis has eight games. Davis leads the team with a 1.19 goals against average and two shutouts.

Friday night's match will broadcast live on the WAC Digital Network (WACsports.com/watch) with Brandon Crow on the play-by-play and former Wolverine Melanie Ostler providing color commentator duties. Sunday's match at GCU will also be streamed live on the WAC Digital Network at 2 p.m. (MT)

ABOUT UMKC
Kansas City sits atop the WAC standings with perfect 5-0-0 record and 15 points. The team holds a 13-3 overall record this season. The team has won nine of its last 10 matches, including six straight dating back to a 2-1 loss against 20th-ranked Oklahoma State on Sept. 16. Senior forward Kelsey Mothershead leads the team with 10 goals this season. Freshman midfielder/forward Ryan Childers leads the nation with 11 assists, followed closely behind by teammate senior midfielder/forward Lexie Howard with 10. Howard also has eight goals for a team-best 26 points. Junior keeper Erin Roth leads the team in goal with 33 saves having given up only four goals this season. She also has five shutouts.  As a team, UMKC has scored an impressive 35 goals with 29 assists. The team averages 1.75 goals per game and owns a 0.79 goals allowed average. The 'Roos are coached by Chris Cissell, who is now in his eighth season with the team.

SERIES HISTORY VS. UMKC
Utah Valley and Kansas City will meet on the pitch for the 10th time on Friday night. The Wolverines hold an all-time 5-4-0 series advantage over the 'Roos. UMKC took a 3-0 win in Kansas City last season. UVU has won three of the last four matches in the series dating back to a 1-0 shutout win at UMKC on Oct. 2, 2015.  The Wolverines hold a perfect 3-0 record against UMKC at Clyde Field.

ABOUT GRAND CANYON
Grand Canyon enters the week with a 5-12-0 overall record and a 2-3-0 mark in the WAC. The team has dropped two of its last three matches. The 'Lopes split a pair of road matches last week, defeating Chicago State 3-0 before falling at Kansas City, 2-0. GCU hosts New Mexico State on Friday before welcoming the Wolverines to GCU Stadium on Sunday. Senior midfielder/forward McKenzie Cook leads the team this season with five goals and 12 points. Sophomore forward Camryn Larson follows closely behind with four goals and eight points. Senior defender Kelsey Smith leads the team with four assists, to go along with two goals for eight points on the year.  Redshirt senior Abby Burton leads the team in goal. She has played all 17 matches this season, collecting 80 saves with three shutouts. As a team, Grand Canyon has scored 17 goals while allowing 26. The team averages 1.0 goals per game. GCU is coached by Derek Leader, who is now in his third season with the team. He holds a 18-34-4 record at GCU.

SERIES HISTORY VS. GRAND CANYON
Utah Valley and Grand Canyon meet on the pitch for the 11th time on Friday night. The game will be a rematch of last year's WAC Tournament semifinal game, which the Wolverines won, 1-0.  UVU holds an all-time 7-3-0 advantage over the 'Lopes. The two teams match up in Phoenix for the sixth time with UVU holding a  3-2 advantage in Phoenix. UVU won the last season's regular season matchup between the two teams, taking a 1-0 victory in Orem on Oct. 20, 2017.

CLYDE FIELD MAGIC
Utah Valley holds an impressive 73-35-11 all time record at Clyde Field. The team has lost just five matches over the past four seasons on the home pitch. UVU went 5-1-0 at home last season, including wins over Wyoming, Seattle U, New Mexico State, UT Rio Grande Valley, and Grand Canyon. The Wolverines went 5-2-1 during the 2016 season and were unbeaten at home during the 2015 season with a 9-0-1 mark. UVU has consistently ranked in the top-40 nationally in attendance.

PETERSON'S BRACE EARNS HER WAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
Utah Valley's Alexis Peterson has been named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for Oct. 8-14, the league office announced on Monday. Peterson, a redshirt senior from Bountiful, Utah, finished the week with two goals and four points. She registered a brace with two goals in a 3-0 shutout win against CSU Bakersfield. The senior forward also had three shots in a loss at California Baptist. On the week, she totaled five shots with four being on goal and earned a .800 shots-on-goal percentage.
