OREM, Utah – Head Utah Valley University women's golf coach
Dr. Sue Nyhus announced on Wednesday the signing of four individuals during the early signing period. All four of the newcomers are current high school seniors and will come to UVU for the 2019-20 season.
Of Nyhus' additions, a trio hail from the U.S. in Breann Brennan (Chandler, Ariz./Perry HS), Victoria Estrada (Henderson, Nev./Coronado HS) and Cassidy Gough (Aberdeen, S.D./Central HS), while Lauren Taylor will come to UVU via Australia (The Vines, Western Australia/Lone Peak HS).
"We are very excited to announce our latest signing class. These are strong, athletic competitors who are eager to compete," Nyhus said. "It's a great day for the Wolverines."
Brennan is a senior at Perry High School and hails from Chandler, Ariz. She is an all-region golfer that has also earned first team All-CUSD recognition. Brennan was tabbed by the most improved player of the year as well as the sportsmanship award winner by the Junior Golf Association of Arizona. She is the first golfer in Perry High School history to sign with an NCAA Division I school and helped her team to a program-best sixth place finish at state during her time at Perry High.
Estrada is a current high school senior at Coronado High School in Henderson, Nev. She is a Nevada State Champion and region champion golfer and also a Nevada State Junior Amateur Champion. She has also been named the Las Vegas Sun Stand-Out Award recipient as well as a Best of Nevada's Prep Award winner. She holds a handful of tournament victories in Southern California and helped her high school team win back-to-back-to-back-to-back state titles (2014-17). Estrada has carded a career-low score of 68.
Gough is a senior at Central High School in Aberdeen, S.D. She is a four-time first team all-state performer and a three-time all-conference award winner. She has also won the Spirit of Eagle Award twice as well as MVP honors and Rookie of the Year accolades. A season ago, she recorded 10 of 11 top-10 finishes on the season. Gough has helped her team to a pair of conference titles as well as back-to-back state runner-up honors. She also earned first team all-conference accolades in volleyball this fall as well.
Taylor is from The Vines, Western Australia but recently moved to Utah where she is a current senior at Lone Peak High School in nearby Highland. She is a three-time all-state golfer that holds a pair of 6A individual state titles. She recorded rounds of 66 and 69 for an impressive 9-under-par during her latest individual state championship. She also won the Arizona State FCG Junior Championship to earn a spot at the junior world championships. She also won a region individual title in 2016 and was the Utah representative for the Mary Cave Cup. Taylor has helped Lone Peak to a pair of state championships as well as a trio of region titles.
"Lauren and Victoria have state, regional, and national competitive experience. Breann and Cassidy are both three sport high school athletes who are now focused on golf. Their team sport background and work ethic will help serve them well in the Wolverine Golf Family."
After taking the majority of the winter months off, the 2018-19 UVU women's golf team will return to action on Feb. 11-12 at UC Riverside's Battle at the Rock at Oak Quarry Golf Club in Riverside, Calif.
