WOLVERINES DRAW GRAND CANYON IN WAC TOURNAMENT QUARTERFINAL
Utah Valley University opens the 2018 WAC Tournament on Wednesday at 1 p.m. PT/2 p.m. MT against 4th-seeded Grand Canyon University. The Wolverines and Lopes both finished the WAC regular season with 6-4 records with GCU earning the higher seed due to its win over UVU on Oct. 26. Utah Valley is the No. 5 seed. The entire tournament can be seen live on  ESPN+ and is being hosted by Seattle University.Â
The Wolverines are 1-2-1 all-time in the WAC Tournament, with their last appearance coming during the 2016 season. It will be the first time that UVU and GCU will meet in men's soccer in the postseason.
"This year's WAC tournament is loaded with exceptional programs and I believe the championship is truly up for grabs," UVU head coach Greg Maas said. "Our matchup with GCU couldn't be more balanced. That said, this team is ready for our rematch with the Lopes — it's guaranteed to be fast-paced and entertaining.

The winner of Wednesday's game will face league champion and top-seeded No. 13Â Air Force on Friday at 4 p.m. PT in the first of two semifinal matches.Â
LAST TIME OUT
Last Saturday's scheduled finale at No. 12 Air Force was canceled due to field conditions after a snow storm hit the Colorado Springs area. Prior to that, the Wolverines lost two overtime heartbreakers. The game at GCU, and in a 2-1 loss at UNLV on a penalty kick in the 102nd minute.Â
ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
Grand Canyon enters the tournament having won three straight including a 2-1 overtime win over Utah Valley on Oct. 26 in Phoenix. Two days later the Lopes knocked off Air Force before winning their regular season finale at UNLV last Friday.Â
Utah Valley is 3-2-0 in the all-time series against Grand Canyon, but has lost two straight. Both have come in overtime on a golden goal at GCU Stadium. In the prior meeting, Jackson Jellah scored the game-winner in the 100th minute of the match, less than a minute before the game would have extended to a second overtime.Â
TOURNAMENT FIELD
With Air Force defending its regular season championship and entering as the top seed, the Falcons have earned a first-round bye. The other side of the bracket has No. 2 UT Rio Grande Valley facing No. 7 UNLV at 4 p.m. PT with defending tournament champion and host Seattle U going up against San José State at 7 p.m. PT.
