UVU alum Young set for year two of pro ball in Australia

OREM—Former Utah Valley University men's basketball player Ivory Young has signed a professional contract to play for the Corio Bay Stingrays of the Big V League in Australia. It marks the second-straight year that Young has played professionally in the Land Down Under.

Young played for the South Adelaide Panthers last season in the Australian Premier League. He averaged 17.5 points, 3.6 assists, and 3.3 rebounds per game. He shot 40.2 percent from the field. He was named the Premier League Player of the Week after dropping 45 points with eight rebounds and five steals against Norwood on June 23.

"My first year went well," said Young. "I did well enough for other teams to take notice. Corio Bay saw what I did there and they wanted me to come play for them this season. I feel very blessed to go back and play another year of pro ball."

Young will travel back to Australia in February to begin preparations for his season with Corio Bay.

"The first season was an adjustment with the role changes and having a team rely on me for my scoring," said Young. "I now feel a lot more comfortable heading over for my second season and feel that I can go enjoy it more and play even better. I love playing in Australia. This team has struggled the past few seasons and I'm excited to get there and help change the culture and attitude of the team."

Young enjoyed an impressive two seasons at Utah Valley during the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons. He averaged 7.4 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. He helped the Wolverines to their first-ever national postseason tournament wins, which culminated in a first-ever trip to the College Basketball Invitational Final Four. Young's personality and hard play made him a fan favorite at UVU.

"I loved my time at Utah Valley," Young said. "It was a great two years. I met some of my best friends and had great teammates and coaches. My experience at UVU helped me get here. The school, my teammates, and coaches are all still very supportive to me in my life."

Young earned a bachelor's degree in communications from Utah Valley in 2017.
