Montgomery triple-double downs UVU in regular season finale

SEATTLE – A triple-double from Seattle U senior wing Alexis Montgomery downed Utah Valley women's basketball, 83-53, in Saturday afternoon's regular season finale inside the Connolly Complex.

The Wolverines (11-18, 5-9 WAC) finished with a pair of double-digit scorers in the loss, as senior guard Taylor Christensen and sophomore forward Jordan Holland each tallied 13 points. But the Redhawks (15-14, 9-5 WAC) countered with three players in double figures, led by Montgomery's 15 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists.

With the defeat, UVU will land the No. 6 seed heading into the 2018 WAC Tournament quarterfinals in Las Vegas inside Orleans Arena. Meanwhile, Seattle U will secure the fourth seed heading into the conference tournament.

In the first quarter, the Wolverines erased an early 9-2 deficit by closing the quarter on a 14-7 run to even the score at 16-16. Christensen hit two straight jumpers and junior guard Britta Spencer nailed a three-pointer to spark the quarter-ending surge for UVU.

Holland opened the scoring in the second quarter with a layup and senior guard Mariah Seals made a pair of buckets to score the first six Wolverine points in the period. After trading baskets with the Redhawks, Seals and Holland help the Wolverines grab a 22-19 lead with 7:10 remaining in the first quarter.

During the second quarter, Holland scored six of UVU's 16 points to head into the halftime break trailing SU by two, 34-32. Seattle U then took control of the lead for good in the quarter, outscoring Utah Valley 29-6 to start the second half and head into to the fourth quarter with a 26-point lead.

Seals continued her streak of consecutive games with an assist alive in the contest, finishing with one dime on the afternoon to mark her 35th straight game with an assist.

Outside of Montgomery, the Redhawks enjoyed double-digit games from Jacinta Beckley and Madeline Dopplick. Beckely followed Montgomery with 13 points and Dopplick added 12 points of her own.

UVU is scheduled to take on the No. 3 seed in the WAC Tournament quarterfinals held in Las Vegas on Wednesday, March 7. Tip-off from Orleans Arena is slated for a noon start.
