OREM, Utah—The defending WAC champion Utah Valley women's soccer team will host in-state rival Utah on Saturday, April 14, in a spring soccer matchup at Clyde Field. Kickoff is set for 10 a.m. (MT).
Utah Valley enjoyed a stellar 2017 season under first-year head coach
Chris Lemay as the team won the WAC Tournament title and earned a bid to take on eventual national champion Stanford at the NCAA Tournament.
The Wolverines have now won two WAC Tournament championships over the past three years. With its 10-12-1 overall record this past season, UVU has now recorded four-straight 10-plus win seasons dating back to 2014. Utah Valley finished WAC play with an impressive 5-2-0 record.
Six Wolverines earned WAC postseason honors in 2017.
Breanna DeWaal, who recently departed on an LDS Church mission, led the Wolverines in scoring with nine goals. DeWaal earned first team all-WAC honors and was named to the USC All-West Region team.
Breanna McCarter ranked second on the team n scoring with seven goals. McCarter, a second team all-WAC honoree, also ranked second on the team with 19 points in 2017. Sophomore
Hannah Bruce earned first team All-WAC honors as she anchored the UVU defense to four shutouts. She also helped offensively with five assists in 2017.
Utah went 5-11-3 last overall and 0-9-2 in Pac-12 play. Junior forward Hailey Skolmoski became the first Ute to earn First Team All Pac-12 honors. Skolmoski finished the season tied for the team lead with eight goals. She also ranked second on the team with 17 points.
Utah Valley and Utah have met seven times in the regular season with the Utes holding an all-time 0-6-1 advantage. The two teams last met during the 2016 season with Utah Valley picking up its first-ever tie against the Utes in a 0-0 double-overtime decision.
