UVU's Ogbe signs contract to play for Germany's ALBA Berlin

OREM—Former Utah Valley University men's basketball player Kenneth Ogbe is returning to his homeland of Germany where he has signed a two-year professional contract to play for ALBA Berlin.

"It has always been my dream to play for ALBA," said Ogbe. "I have been following the team closely last season and have seen how well the players have developed here. I am convinced that the fast and free game of ALBA will play well with my skills. Knowing that I wanted to go to Berlin, I did not have to think long before the call came."

Alba Berlin is one of the most successful professional international teams in the world. Berlin has won eight German Championships, nine German Cups, three German Supercups, and the FIBA Korac Cup. The team is one of the most popular teams in Europe. In 2014, the team was the first German basketball team to beat a reigning NBA champion, the San Antonio Spurs. The team plays its home games at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin.

Ogbe was a first team all-WAC honoree after leading Utah Valley to a school-record 23 wins this past season. He led the Wolverines in scoring, averaging 13.7 points per game. The Munich, Germany native led UVU with a 42.9 percent clip from beyond the arc as he knocked down 67-of-121 threes. He also averaged 3.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 0.8 steals per game. Ogbe helped the Wolverines to a second-straight invite to the College Basketball Invitational in 2018 where he scored a season-high 26 points in a second-round game at San Francisco.

"UVU has given me the opportunity to become a better basketball player and more importantly a better person," said Ogbe. "Everyone in the athletic department has prepared me for this next step in my career. Playing professionalley has been a dream of mine and I would not be in the position I am today if it wasn't for coach Pope and his staff. UVU will always be my home away from home and I can't thank the university enough for how it has changed my life."

In his two seasons at Utah Valley, Ogbe scored 802 points, which ranks 10th on UVU's all-time scoring list. He also recorded a career three-point mark of 41.9 percent, which is the second-best career mark in UVU history. Ogbe earned a master's of business administration while at Utah Valley.
