Utah Valley women fall in overtime at Wyoming, 1-0

LARAMIE, Wyoming—Utah Valley had opportunities to score but could not find the back of the net as the Wolverines dropped a 1-0 overtime decision at Wyoming on Sunday afternoon at Louis S. Madrid stadium in Laramie, Wyoming.

Utah Valley wraps up its season-opening road trip with a 0-2 record. Wyoming improves to 2-0 on the season with the victory in its home opener.

"We played a strong first half and had a lot of possessions," said Utah Valley head coach Chris Lemay. "Unfortunately, we weren't able to create anything on our attacks. Wyoming lifted the tempo in the second half and we didn't match it. We found ourselves on our heels."

Caitlin Pickett found the back of the net in the 93rd minute after a teammate's cross deflected off UVU keeper Brooklyn Nielsen before finding Pickett's foot for the game winner.

Utah Valley outshot Wyoming 5-1 in the first half but only connected on four shots to UW's 15 in the second period. Breanna McCarter led the Wolverines with three shots, while Sara Callister and Sadie Brockbank each registered two shots, including one goal each on net. Laken Flinders and Madeline Moore each tallied one shot.

Brooklyn Nielsen played all 93 minutes for UVU in the box. She collected seven saves with the one goal allowed.

"We'll get right back after it and start preparing to defend our home field," said Lemay. "We are excited to play in front of our fans at Clyde Field."

Utah Valley will host in-state rival Weber State on Wednesday night in the team's home opener. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on the WAC Digital Network.
