HOUSTON, Texas—A pair of first-half goals propelled Houston Baptist to a 2-0 win over the Utah Valley men's soccer team on Saturday night in the WAC opener at Houston Sports Park. The match was moved off-campus to the Houston Dynamo practice facility due to the weather in the Houston area.

Utah Valley (2-5-0, 0-1-0) out-shot the Huskies 18-10 on the night, including an 8-5 advantage on frame. The Wolverines also had nine corner kicks to HBU's five.
Blake Frischknecht came off the bench to record a match-high six shots, including two on goal.
Luis Vargas and
Austin Buxton each had four shots with three on frame.

Houston Baptist (3-2-2, 1-0-0) got on the scoreboard in the 26th minute as Darrell Johnson scored his first goal of the season on a shot from 20 yards out the curled up to the right corner of the goal. The Huskies score again just seven minutes later in the 33rd minute after Dequan Thomas slid in on a cross from Gianluca Natera and found the back of the net to give the Huskies a 2-0 advantage.

HBU keeper Jorge Cabrera tallied seven saves on UVU's eight shots on goal. Utah Valley's
Joseph Wheelwright played all 90 minutes for the Wolverines and collected three saves.

Utah Valley returns to Clyde Field for a pair of WAC home games next week. The Wolverines will host UT Rio Grande Valley on Thursday, Sept. 27, before welcoming Incarnate Word on Saturday, Sept. 29. Both matches will kickoff at 7 p.m., and will be broadcast live on the WAC Digital Network.
