WOLVERINES HOME FOR WAC GAMES VS UTRGV, INCARNATE WORD
Utah Valley University is home for the first time in WAC play with University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and the Incarnate Word this weekend. The Wolverines host UTRGV on Thursday and UIW on Saturday. Both matches start at 7 p.m. MT on Clyde Field with Saturday's match a culmination of Homecoming Week on campus.
"Homecoming week is always exciting on campus — there's loads of energy, university pride can be felt everywhere, and it's perfect timing to host two important WAC matches in front of our 12th Wolverines," UVU head coach Greg Maas said. "The results of late have been frustrating, but it hasn't deterred this team's focus and commitment to our quality of play, and it's an understatement that this team is ready to go to battle on Clyde Field."Â
UVU (3-5-0) is looking to snap a five-match skid, during which the Wolverines have struggled to find the back of the net. They have just one goal in the last five games despite out-shooting opponents 67-54 over the stretch including a 27-26 edge in shots on goal.Â
LAST TIME OUT
Utah Valley fell 2-0 at Houston Baptist in the conference opener on a rainy and wet night in Houston. The Huskies scored both goals in the first half. UVU held an 18-10 advantage in shots and were on frame eight times to HBU's five shots on goal.Â
ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
UT Rio Grande Valley is off to a 6-2-0 start and enter Thursday having won five straight. The Vaqueros beat UNLV, 2-0, in their WAC opener last Saturday and are currently ranked No. 32 in the first NCAA RPI of the season, which was released earlier this week.
Incarnate Word is 0-6-1 overall and 0-1-0 in the WAC after a late goal sent Grand Canyon to a one-nil win in last week's league opener. The Cardinals are at No. 8/10 Air Force on Thursday.Â
UP NEXT
The Wolverines travel to California next week for a pair of WAC games at California Baptist (Oct. 5) and CSU Bakersfield (Oct. 7).Â
