UVU travels to Omaha for pair of matches

WOLVERINES IN OMAHA FOR TWO
Utah Valley continues its four-game swing away from Clyde Field with two contests in Omaha this weekend. The Wolverines (3-1-0) will play at Omaha on Friday night at 7 p.m. CT/6 p.m. MT and on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT/10 a.m. MT against Memphis. Sunday's match will be a neutral-site contest played at Creighton.

"Omaha and Memphis are two very good sides and we're looking forward to the match-ups this weekend in Omaha," UVU head coach Greg Maas said. "It's a quick turnaround with difficult back-to-back weekends on the road, but it's good preparation and experience for the team as we'll face the same scenario during conference play in the WAC."

LAST TIME OUT
The Wolverines split two road games at Big West schools last weekend. UVU opened the trip with a come-from-behind win at UC Irvine before a loss on Sunday at CSUN.

Against UC Irvine, Utah Valley trailed 1-0 at halftime before catching a break with an own goal early in the second half for the equalizer. Luis Vargas later scored the game-winner on assists from Austin Buxton and Blake Leonetti and Joseph Wheelwright came up with two win-clinching saves in the final minute of play.

In Sunday's loss, Zach Maas scored for Utah Valley and has a team-high three goals so far this season. His goal tied the match early in the second half before the Matadors pulled away with a flurry of goals over the final 40 minutes of play.

ABOUT OMAHA
Omaha is 0-3-0 following a pair 1-0 shutouts to start the season and a 2-0 loss to Missouri State last Friday. The Mavericks' first two losses were to No. 17 UC Davis and then-No. 11 Clemson. Omaha defeated UVU 3-1 last season in Orem in the only prior meeting between the teams. UVU is 1-1-0 all-time against teams from the Summit League, having split two games against Denver.

ABOUT MEMPHIS
Memphis enters the week at 2-1-1 on the season with a Friday night contest at Creighton. Last weekend, the Tigers split two neutral-site contests in a tournament played at UAB. Memphis dropped a 2-0 decision to No. 19 Coastal Carolina before a 1-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson. Sophomore Peyton McKnatt has scored three of the teams five goals so far this season. Sunday marks the second time Utah Valley will face a team from the American Athletic Conference, with the first meeting coming in the 2015 NCAA Tournament at SMU.

UP NEXT
The Wolverines return home next Friday, Sept. 14 to host UC Santa Barbara at Clyde Field at 7 p.m. MT. UVU will also host 17th-ranked UC Davis on Tuesday, Sept. 18.
