OREM, Utah – The Utah Valley University men's and women's track & field teams will resume action with the Stacy Dragila Open this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 11-12, in Pocatello, Idaho.
Â
UVU enters the meet on the heels of a strong indoor opening-season outing at the Weber State Winter Open last month. There, the Wolverines combined to win 10 events as well as record a pair of new schools records.
Hannah Branch posted a new UVU record in the women's 3000m run with a time of 9:49.70 while Tierra Orr set a new record in the women's high jump after clearing 1.71m (5-07.25).Â
Â
Both Branch and
Albert MacArthur earned WAC Athlete of the Week accolades following the Weber State meet. Branch set the new school record in the 3000m run, while MacArthur won the triple jump and took second in the long jump with respective marks of 14.46m and 6.89m.Â
Â
"This is a good meet for us and we're looking forward to getting back to action after the break," head UVU coach
Scott Houle said. "This will be our first chance to get on a bank track so it should help prepare us for the conference championship. We'll also have the full squad with us, so this will be our first real team event of the indoor season. We're excited to see what we have as well as what moves we need to make to try and put together the best team we can for conference."
Â
For the past three seasons, UVU has set a number of indoor records, first-place finishes, and overall team victories historically at the Idaho State hosted event. This season, athletes from UVU, ISU, Southern Utah, Weber State, Carroll College, Montana Western and the College of Southern Idaho will all compete at the meet.Â
Â
The Wolverines open the two-day competition at 10 a.m. on Friday in the men's heptathlon, which precedes the high jump, shot put, long jump, and women's pole vault. Saturday's events start off with the heptathlon hurdles, remaining field events and all running events beginning at 11:15 a.m.
