UVU hosts CSUB Saturday afternoon in Lockhart Arena

OPENING TIP

  • Utah Valley University wraps up its two-game, WAC-opening homestand on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. against CSU Bakersfield in Lockhart Arena. Both the Wolverines (7-7, 1-0) and Roadrunners (5-9, 1-0) picked up wins in Thursday's conference openers. 
  • UVU is now 7-2 at home on the season after a 57-46 win over Grand Canyon on Thursday night. 
  • Junior Jordan Holland is scoring 12.9 points per game to lead UVU with freshman Eve Braslis is averaging 10.6 points and a team-high 7.0 rebounds. Alexis Cortez is averaging 9.4 points while Maria Carvalho's 4.7 assists per game ranks third in the WAC. 
  • The Roadrunners lead the all-time series 14-5 with the teams splitting eight games in Orem. CSUB has won two straight in the series after sweeping the regular season last year. UVU is 2-6 in conference games against Bakersfield. 
     

LAST TIME OUT
Four players scored in double figures as Utah Valley University opened WAC play with a 57-46 win over Grand Canyon University on Thursday night in the UCCU Center. The 46 points scored is a season-low for a UVU opponent. Eva Braslis led the way with 15 points, Madison Grange scored a career-high 12 and Jordan Holland and Alexis Cortez added 11 points apiece. Braslis also grabbed nine rebounds for the Wolverines. UVU hit 51.2 percent (22-43) from the field on the night while limiting the Lopes (2-9, 0-1) to just 32.7 percent (18-55). 
 

ABOUT THE RUNNERS
CSU Bakersfield held off Seattle U to earn a road win, 70-60, on Thursday night. Alexxus Gilbert scored 27 points as she and Jazmine Johnson combine for 49 points. Johnson also grabbed 13 rebounds in helping the Runners snap a seven-game skid. Gilbert is averaging 17.4 points per game, which ranks third in the WAC, while Malayasia McHenry leads the Runners with 7.0 rebounds per contest. 


UP NEXT
The Wolverines will hit the road for three straight games in league play beginning next Saturday, Jan. 12 at Seattle U. The following week they'll be at UT Rio Grande Valely (Jan. 17) and New Mexico State (Jan. 19).
