OREM—
Amber Tripp's goal in the 28th minute led Utah Valley to a 1-0 shutout win over New Mexico State on Thursday evening at Clyde Field.
Â
The win pushes UVU's record to 6-6-1 overall and 2-1-0 in WAC play. NM State falls to 1-10-2 overall and 0-3-0 in league play.
Â
"We're happy with the shutout," said Utah Valley head coach
Chris Lemay. "We generated a lot of opportunities but to be honest, I didn't feel like we were disciplined enough in front of goal and missed a lot of opportunities that should have been goals. That can come back and bite us unless we sharpen it up a little bit."
Â
The Wolverines got on the scoreboard in the 28th minute after
Heather Stainbrook sent a corner kick in to
Megan Sullivan at the right corner of the 18. Sullivan then sent a ball into the box that was mishandled by the NM State keeper. Tripp then found the ball and fired a shot into the back of the net to give UVU a 1-0 lead.
Â
Utah Valley out-shot NM State 26-3, including a 15-1 advantage on goal.
Sadie Brockbank led UVU with a game-high seven shots, including five on frame. Tripp had six shots, five of which were on goal. Stainbrook and
Megan Sullivan each had three shots, while
Julianna Carter had two. The Wolverines produced eight corner kicks to NM State's one.
Â
Allie Jara picked up the shutout in goal. The senior keeper recorded one save in the match.
Â
Utah Valley will continue WAC play at home on Saturday against California Baptist. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. MT at Clyde Field.
