WAC-leading Wolverines play at Kansas City on Saturday

UVU BEGINS THREE-GAME ROAD SWING IN KANSAS CITY
With six games remaining in the WAC regular season, Utah Valley University will begin its final stretch of road contests on Saturday at Kansas City at 7 p.m. CT/6 p.m. MT. The Wolverines (8-3-1 overall) enter play this weekend at 5-0-0 and with 15 points in WAC play, two points in front of Seattle U. UVU has won five straight and is receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll.

"Our match with UMKC is the first of three straight on the road. It's a one-off weekend in the WAC, and we're preparing hard for a side that's coming off of two good results at home," UVU head coach Greg Maas said. "I continue to be impressed with the depth, determination, and focus of this group. They're humble, don't get ahead of themselves, and have been very honest to our one-game-at-a-time approach."

Utah Valley picked up two shutouts last week in league play, defeating CSU Bakersfield, 2-0, and California Baptist, 1-0. Goalkeeper Mitch Jensen was named the WAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season following the two clean sheets.

In the win over CSUB, Blake Frischknecht and Luis Vargas each scored goals. Frischknecht's marked the seventh straight game the senior forward had scored and was also the third consecutive game-winner. He is tied for the national lead with five game-winning goals, leads the WAC in goals scored, and is tied for the conference lead with three others with 16 points.

In Saturday's win over California Baptist, Alec Felix put back a shot by Vargas in the seventh minute and that goal held up for the one-nil victory.

UP NEXT
The Wolverines will play the final road games of the conference season next week at San José State (Oct. 25) and at Seattle U (Oct. 27). Following that, UVU will play three straight home games to wrap up the WAC regular season.

ABOUT THE ROOS
After dropping its first three WAC contests, all on the road, Kansas City returned home and picked up two wins last week at Durwood Soccer Stadium. The Roos won in overtime over Incarnate Word, 2-1, before knocking off UT Rio Grande Valley by the same score on Sunday. Kansas City's Ryan Khedoo was named the WAC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. Utah Valley is 4-1-0 all-time against the Roos, including 1-1-0 on the road. The Wolverines have won four straight in the series with three of those coming as shutouts.
