UTAH VALLEY WRAPS UP HOME SLATE THIS WEEK AGAINST UTRGV, GRAND CANYON
Utah Valley wraps up its home slate this week with its final games of the season at Clyde Field. The Wolverines will host UT Rio Grande Valley on Thursday before welcoming Grand Canyon on Saturday. Both matches will kickoff at 6 p.m. (MT)
UVU went 1-1 last week with a lopsided 10-0 shutout win at Chicago State and a 0-1 setback at Kansas City.
Cassidy McCormick scored her first collegiate goal in the win over CSU and then added two more for her first career hat trick.
Sadie Brockbank and
Jocelyn Bybee each recorded a brace with two goals apiece, while
Amber Tripp,
McKenzie Humpherys, and
McKayla Montgomery each had one goal in the win over the Cougars.
Allie Jara picked up the shutout win in the box.
Tripp leads the team with 15 points this season as she has five goals and five assists.
Julianna Carter has 12 points with six goals, Tripp and Carter are tied for the team lead in shots at 34. 10 other UVU players have each recorded a goal this season. Jara leads UVU in goal with a 1.11 goals allowed average. She also has 44 saves and a .746 save percentage.
CARTER RANKS SECOND IN THE NATION IN SHOT ACCURACY, TRIPP RANKS 19TH
Utah Valley sophomore forward
Julianna Carter ranks second in the entire nation in shot accuracy with a .735 mark. She also ranks 20th in the country with four game-winning goals. She also ranks 84th nationally in shots on goal per game (1.56).
Amber Tripp ranks 34th in the nation in shot accuracy at .618. As a team, UVU ranks 42nd nationally in total assists (27), 43rd in shot accuracy (.516), 44th in yellow cards (13), 47th in total points (87), and 50th in total goals (30).
UTAH VALLEY HOLDS WAC'S SECOND-BEST RPI RANKING
Utah Valley holds the second-best RPI in the Western Athletic Conference at 131. The Wolverines trail Kansas City (118) and are followed by Seattle U (161), California Baptist (164), UT Rio Grande Valley (182), CSU Bakersfield (230), Grand Canyon (264), New Mexico State (278), and Chicago State (331).
CLYDE FIELD MAGIC, UVU RANKS SIXTH NATIONALLY IN ATTENDANCE
Utah Valley holds an impressive 80-38-11 all time record at Clyde Field. The team has lost just seven matches over the past five seasons on the home pitch. UVU suffered its first losing record at home in 2018, going 3-4-1. UVU went 5-1-0 in 2017, 5-2-1 during the 2016 season and were unbeaten at home during the 2015 season with a 9-0-1 mark. The Wolverines are a 4-1-1 at home this season. UVU ranks sixth in the nation in attendance this season as the Wolverines average 1,592 fans per game at Clyde Field.
ABOUT UT RIO GRANDE VALLEY
UT Rio Grande Valley enters Thursday's match against Utah Valley with a 9-4-2 overall record and a 3-1-1 mark in WAC play. The team has won five of its last seven matches and three of its last four. The team went 1-1 last week with a 3-0 loss at California Baptist and a 1-0 win at home over CSU Bakersfield. In its win over CSUB on Sunday, freshman midfielder Maya Chitman scored the lone goal of the match, helping the Vaqueros secure the win over the 'Runners. Sophomore forward Emily Zapata leads the team in scoring this season with five goals, followed by senior forward Sarah Bonney with four. Senior keeper Kinga Szemik has logged 1165 minutes in goal while allowing 15 goals (1.16 per game). She has 53 saves and a .779 save percentage.
SERIES HISTORY VS. UT RIO GRANDE VALLEY
Utah Valley and UTRGV go head-to-head for the fifth time on Thursday night. The Wolverines own an all-time 3-1-0 lead in the series. UVU's first loss to the Vaqueros came last season with a 3-1 setback in Edinburg on Sept. 30, 2018. Thursday's match marks just the second time that the two teams have met on the Clyde Field pitch. UVU defeated UTRGV 2-0 the last time the two teams met in Orem.
ABOUT GRAND CANYON
Grand Canyon heads into the week with a 3-11-1 overall record and a 2-3-0 mark in league play. The 'Lopes dropped a pair of matches last week, falling at home to Seattle U, 1-0, before dropping a 3-0 setback at California Baptist. GCU has wins this season over Kansas City, New Mexico State, and Stetson. Freshman midfielder Emma Anderson, junior forward Camryn Larson, and redshirt freshman forward Jaycee Iranshad lead the team with two goals each. Three other 'Lopes have one goal. Freshman keeper Lauren Garthwaite has logged all 1377 minutes in goal for GCU, tallying 83 saves while allowing 28 goals.
SERIES HISTORY VS. GRAND CANYON
Utah Valley and Grand Canyon meet on the pitch for the 13th time on Saturday night. The game will be a rematch of last year's WAC Tournament quarterfinal game, which the Wolverines won, 2-1. UVU holds an all-time 8-3-1 advantage over the 'Lopes. The two teams played to a double-overtime 0-0 tie during regular season play last season in Phoenix. UVU holds a 5-1 all-time record over GCU in games played on the Clyde Field pitch in Orem.
