Amber Tripp scored the game winner in the 49th minute to lead the Utah Valley women's soccer team to a 1-0 shutout win over Grand Canyon on Saturday night at Clyde Field.
Utah Valley's three seniors (
Brianna Hatch,
Allie Jara,
Hannah Bruce) were honored prior to game as they were playing their final match on the Clyde Field pitch.
"This feels good," said Utah Valley head coach
Chris Lemay. "We were able to get the shutout and its senior day. We have three fantastic seniors and we wanted end it on a good note, and to get the win and three points is awesome."
The Wolverines improve to 10-7-1 overall and 5-2 in WAC play. The team has 15 points and currently sits in second place in the WAC standings. Grand Canyon falls to 4-12-1 overall and 3-4 in league play.
Utah Valley got on the scoreboard in the 49th minute after
Madeline Moore fired a shot that bounced off the post and back into the box. The ball rebounded off the post to
Amber Tripp, who then kicked it past the GCU keeper and into the back of the net for the score to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead. The goal is her sixth of the season.
Utah Valley out-shot GCU 15-8 and had a 6-2 advantage on frame. The Wolverines had four corner kicks to GCU's two.
Heather Stainbrook and
Breanna DeWaal led UVU with three shots apiece, including two on frame.
Julianna Carter, Tripp, and
Sadie Brockbank each had two shots.
Alli Jara picked up her fifth shutout of the season in goal, playing all 90 minutes with two saves.
Utah Valley will now travel to Seattle to face the Redhawks in the team's regular season finale on Saturday, Nov. 2. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. (MT)
