UVU HOSTS GRAND CANYON ON THURSDAY NIGHT AT UCCU CENTER
After picking up a road sweep last week with wins at Seattle and California Baptist, Utah Valley returns to Orem to play its final two home games of the season. The Wolverines will take on Grand Canyon on Thursday night in a battle for second place in the WAC standings. The team will then celebrate its seniors in the final home contest of the season against CSU Bakersfield on Saturday night. Tip-off for both games is set for 7 p.m. MT
Richard Harward hit the go-ahead free throws with 1:35 to go as Utah Valley held on to defeat California Baptist, 64-63, on Saturday night at the CBU Event Center in Riverside, Calif. The Lancers had two chances, including one at the buzzer, but came up short as the Wolverines won their fifth-straight game. Steele recorded his sixth double-double of the season with 14 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
Conner Toolson chipped in 13 points to go along with eight rebounds and
Isaiah White added ten points.
Utah Valley won its 20th game of the season last week against Seattle U. The 20-win season is the second-straight 20-win campaign for the Wolverines, marking the first time in school history that the team has recorded back-to-back 20-win seasons. With its win at CBU, UVU now has 21 wins and is just two wins shy of tying the school record of 23 set last year.
Conner Toolson knocked down a shot from long range with 14:38 remaining in the second half against Sam Houston State on Dec. 22 to lift his career point total to 1,002 points as he became just the eighth player in UVU history to score 1,000 career points. Toolson scored 18 points on the night to up his career total to 1,007. He is now fifth on the all-time scoring list with 1,141 points.
As of March 6, Utah Valley holds one of the top shooting percentages in the country as the Wolverines rank 18th nationally in field-goal percentage with a 48.4 percent clip from the floor. UVU also ranks 15th in the country in three-point field goal percentage at 38.7 percent.
Jake Toolson ranks 41st nationally with a 56.2 percent field goal mark and 37th nationally from charity stripe as he holds an 86.1 free throw percentage.

Jake Toolson is the only player in the country that has played in 20 or more games while shooting better than 55 percent from the field (56.2 percent), 45 percent from three-point range (47.6 percent), and 85 percent from the free throw line (86.1 percent). Such a season has only been accomplished 20 times since 1992. Of that group, only 10 players in that group scored over 300 total points in a season. Toolson is one of those 10 players. The junior guard is in rare company.
BROADCAST INFORMATION
Thursday night's game against Grand Canyon will be broadcast live on UVUtv and the WAC Digital Network, which is available at WACsports.com/watch. UVU has also entered into a new partnership with KSLtv. The KSLtv app will be streaming all home UVU men's basketball games live. The game will also be streamed live through the GoUVU YouTube channel, and on the GoUVU Facebook page. Brandon Crow and Holton Hunsaker will be on the call. The game will also be broadcast over the radio waves as Jim McCulloch enters his ninth season as the voice of the Wolverines. Josh Kallunki will be handling the color commentary duties on the radio. ABOUT GRAND CANYON
Grand Canyon enters Thursday night's game with an 18-10 overall record under sixth-year head coach Dan Majerle. The Antelopes are tied for second with UVU in the WAC standings with identical 10-4 records. The 'Lopes have won four straight games dating back to a 90-59 victory at Chicago State on Feb. 16. GCU holds a 5-5 record on the road this season, including a 4-2 record on the road in WAC play. Grand Canyon has four players averaging double figures led by junior guard Carlos Johnson at 13.3 points a game. Sophomore center Alessandro Lever and redshirt senior forward Michael Finke follow closely behind at 12.5 and 12.3 points per game, respectively. Sophomore guard Damari Milstead also averages double digits at 10.3 points a game. Redshirt senior guard Trey Drechsel leads the team on the boards, pulling down 5.5 a contest. As a team, Grand Canyon is averaging 76.1 points a game while limiting opponents to a 66.9 points per game average.
SERIES HISTORY VS. GRAND CANYON
Utah Valley and Grand Canyon meet up on the basketball hardwood for the 14th time on Thursday night. The 'Lopes hold an all-time 9-4 advantage in the series. Utah Valley snapped a six-game skid against the Antelopes last season with a 68-56 win on Jan. 27, 2018 in Orem. GCU then won the next three as the Antelopes took a 60-59 win in Phoenix, a 75-60 victory over UVU in the semifinals of the WAC Tournament in Las Vegas, and a 71-60 win over the Wolverines in the WAC opener on Jan. 3 of this season. UVU holds an all-time 3-3 record against GCU in games played in Orem. The Wolverines defeated GCU 68-56 last season at the UCCU Center.
UVU HOLDS ON TO PICK UP 64-63 WIN AT CALIFORNIA BAPTIST
RIVERSIDE, Calif. –Â

The win pushes the Wolverine's record to 21-8 on the year and keeps them tied for second in the WAC with Grand Canyon at 10-4. The win also gives UVU back-to-back seasons with at least 10 wins in conference play. The Lancers fall to 15-13 on the season and 6-8 in conference play.

Harward drew the foul and was able to knock down both free throws to give UVU the final lead of the game. After the Lancers rebounded their own miss with 19 seconds left in the game,
Isaiah White poked the ball away and
Conner Toolson dove on the ground and called timeout with 1.7 seconds left to give Utah Valley possession. After a UVU turnover, California Baptist threw up a prayer at the buzzer but it hit nothing but the backboard.
The Wolverines raced out to a 7-0 lead over the first four minutes of the game, powered by a
Baylee Steele dunk. The Lancers battled back into the game, trimming it down to 13-11 with 11:44 to go in the half. Utah Valley responded, using an 11-3 run to push their lead out to 24-14 with Conner and
Jake Toolson leading the way. After exchanging baskets,
Wyatt Lowell hit a three from the wing just before the shot clock went off to give UVU a 39-31 lead going into the break.

California Baptist scored the first five points of the second half before both teams would battle exchange baskets back and forth. The Lancers then used a 22-9 run to take a 61-58 lead with 5:06 to go in the game.
TJ Washington converted two driving layups to retake the lead at 62-61 with 4:08 left in regulation. California Baptist countered with a layup on the ensuing possession to recapture the lead, 63-62, and neither team was able to pull away until the Harward sank his foul shots to give UVU the 64-63 win.

The Wolverines had an off night from the field but won the battle on the glass, 45-37, and held the Lancers to just 39.7 percent shooting from the floor. Utah Valley also did damage from the foul line, finishing 14-of-18 from the line while limiting California Baptist to just seven attempts from the charity stripe. Â

UVU STAT LEADERS
Jake Toolson leads Utah Valley in scoring at 16.3 points per game, followed closely behind by
Conner Toolson at 12.5 points a contest. The Toolson duo has scored nearly 40 percent of UVU's points this season. Jake has been impressive from the floor, shooting 56.2 percent (164-of-292), including a team-best 47.6 percent (59-of-124) clip from three-point range. He also leads UVU with an 86.1 percent (87-of-101) clip from the free throw line.
Baylee Steele leads UVU on the boards, pulling down 7.3 rebounds a game, while
TJ Washington leads the team in assists at 3.9 a game.
TOOLSON HOLDS HIGHEST THREE-POINT PERCENTAGE MARK IN UVU HISTORY
Jake Toolson currently holds a 47.6 percent mark from long range this season, connecting on an impressive 59-of-124 shots from deep. The mark currently bests the current UVU single season record of 46.8 percent (65-of-139) by Ryan Toolson during the 2003-04 season.
UVU'S HOME WIN STREAK ENDS AT 22, WOLVERINES 27-2 AT HOME OVER LAST TWO SEASONS
Utah Valley won a school-record 22 straight games at home dating from a win over UTSA on Nov. 29, 2017 to a win over UTRGV on Jan. 17, 2019. The previous UVU home win streak record was 17 games, which was set from the 2004-05 season to the 2005-06 season. UVU holds an impressive 27-2 record at home over the last two seasons. Utah Valley holds an all-time 177-47 (79 percent) record in 13 seasons at the UCCU Center. The Wolverines are averaging 13.6 wins a season on their home hardwood. UVU finished play at home last season with a school-record 16-1 record. The team holds an 10-1 record at home this season.
UVU RECORDS BACK-TO-BACK 20-WIN SEASONS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN PROGRAM HISTORY
Utah Valley won a school-record 23 games just a season ago and defeated Seattle U on Feb. 26 for its 20th win of the season. It marks the first time in program history that UVU has recorded back-to-back 20-win seasons. There have now been six 20-win seasons in UVU's 15-year Division I history, two of which have been recorded under head coach
Mark Pope. UVU now holds a 21-8 record this season.
