OPENING TIP
- Utah Valley University and CSU Bakersfield will wrap of the WAC regular season on Saturday at 1 p.m. PT/2 p.m. MT from the Icardo Center in Bakersfield, California.Â
- The Wolverines (14-14, 8-7) are tied with UMKC and CSUB for fourth place in the WAC standings. New Mexico State and UT Rio Grande Valley have locked up the top two spots in next week's tournament. Second place California Baptist is not eligible for the tournament due to its reclassification status.
- A UVU win on Saturday would assure the Wolverines of at least the No. 4 seed. A win and a UMKC loss to Chicago State would give the Wolverines the third seed. A CSUB win would give UMKC the four and UVU the five.Â
- Jordan Holland is averaging 13.6 points and 6.4 rebounds for the Wolverines and has scored in double figures in 19 straight games. Eve Braslis is scoring 10.6 points and grabbing and 5.8 rebounds, Alexis Cortez is scoring 9.9 per game along with 5.0 boards and Maria Carvalho is averaging 7.3 points and 4.4 assists per game.Â
- Utah Valley outlasted CSUB on Jan. 5 in Orem to move to 2-0 in WAC play at the time, 78-70. The Wolverine win snapped a streak of two straight -- and four of five -- wins by the Runners. All five UVU starters scored in double figures led by 17 points from Holland and 16 points apiece from Cortez and Carvalho. Cortez also had 10 rebounds in the win.Â

LAST TIME OUT
The Utah Valley University women's basketball team suffered a 64-54 defeat at Grand Canyon University on Thursday night in GCU Arena. The Wolverines (14-14, 8-7) got 14 points from Jordan Holland and 10 from Eve Braslis, but the Lopes (7-18, 5-10) had 10 made 3-pointers combined from Kavita Akula and Venla Varis. Akula made six 3-pointers for Grand Canyon and finished with a game-high 18. All six makes came in her first eight attempts as she finished 6-for-10. Varis was 4-for-8 from beyond the arc and finished with 14.
ABOUT THE RUNNERS
CSU Bakersfield dropped a 68-58 decision to Seattle U on Thursday night at home, ending a run of three wins in the last four games for CSUB. Alexxus Gilbert, who scored 22 against Utah Valley on Jan. 5, leads the Roadrunners at 16.3 ppg while Malayasia McHenry is scoring 10.1 and averaging a team-high 6.3 rebounds per game.Â

The 2019 WAC Tournament begins next Wednesday at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. It will be the Wolverines' sixth time at the tournament.Â
