OREM, Utah -- Seattle University had a big offensive day to take the opener of a three-game WAC softball series, 12-1, over Utah Valley University on a cold Friday afternoon at Wolverine Field.
The Redhawks (26-14, 5-2) jumped ahead with seven runs in the first inning en route to the run-rule win that ended after five innings. The Wolverines (12-20, 4-6) were stung by five extra-base hits in the inning, with Seattle collecting eight of its 16 hits in the opening frame.Â
SU added three in the third and two more in the fourth before UVU got on the board in the bottom of the fourth.

Ally Choate went 4-for-4 while Bailey Thompson was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Madison Cathcart went 2-for-3 with two runs and two batted in. Seattle U starter Carley Nance didn't allow an earned run over her complete-game apperance in the circle, striking out six on eight scattered hits.Â
The series concludes on Saturday with a doubleheader slated for a 1 p.m. MT first pitch.Â
