Former Wolverines set to play in The Basketball Tournament

OREM—Former Utah Valley University basketball players Ronnie Price and Akolda Manyang will be competing at The Basketball Tournament (TBT), July 25-27, at the Maverik Center in West Valley City, Utah.
 
Price and Manyang will be competing for Team Utah, which will play in the eight-team Salt Lake City regional July 25-27, at the Maverik Center. Team Utah is the No. 8 seed at the regional and will take on top-seeded Eberlein Drive on Thursday, July 25 at 3 p.m. (MST). The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3. The winner of the Salt Lake City regional, along with the other seven region winners, will compete in the TBT finals, Aug. 1-6, in Chicago for the $2 million prize.
 
Price is one of the greatest players in UVU history. He played three seasons with the Wolverines from 2002-05. Price averaged 24.3 points per game during his final season at UVU, which ranked him third in the NCAA in scoring. He was also voted to the All-District 8 team by the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) and was named the NCAA Division I Independent Player of the Year. Price ranks first all-time at UVU with a career 22.2 points per game scoring averag and ranks fourth all-time at UVU with 1,245 points.


 
As a junior (2003-04), Price led the Wolverines to the NCAA Division I Provisional Championship in a last-second win at Florida Gulf Coast and earned the tournament's Most Valuable Player award. He was named to the NCAA Division I All-Independent Team. His career at UVU was capped by a memorable 36-point performance in front of his home crowd in a win over Northern Colorado. Price became the 27th member of the UVU Hall of Fame with his induction in 2010.
 
Following his career at Utah Valley, Price played 12 seasons in the NBA with five different teams, including the Sacramento Kings, Utah Jazz, Phoenix Suns, Portland Trailblazers, Orlando Magic, and Los Angeles Lakers. He is currently a scout for the Phoenix Suns organization.
 
Manyang played his senior season at Utah Valley during the 2017-18 campaign after transferring from the University of Oklahoma. Along with Price, Manyang is the only other player in UVU history to be named to the USBWA All-District team. During the 2017-18 season, Manyang led the Western Athletic Conference with a 2.30 blocks per game average, which ranked 24th nationally. He holds the UVU single season record for both blocks (71) and blocks per game (2.3). Manyang earned WAC All-Defensive team honors in 2018.
