UVU returns to Clyde Field to host Canisius and UC Irvine

UVU RETURNS TO CLYDE FOR TWO-GAME HOMESTAND
Utah Valley University returns to Clyde Field for a two-game homestand beginning Friday night against Canisius at 7 p.m. MT. The Wolverines (1-1-1) will also host UC Irvine on Monday at 5 p.m. in the first game of a doubleheader with the UVU women. Both matches can be seen live on the WAC Digital Network.

"We have one of the best home environments in college soccer and the boys are ready to return to Clyde Field and our 12th Wolverines," UVU head coach Greg Maas said. "Our challenging non-conference schedule continues with two respected programs in Canisius and UC Irvine – as we look to refine elements of our game in preparation for WAC play in the next couple of weeks."

UVU spent last weekend in Southern California for two contests, earning a 2-2 draw at CSUN before falling, 2-0, at No. 23 Cal State Fullerton. Againt the Matadors last Friday night, Alec Felix and Zach Maas both scored goals and the Wolverines played the final 67 minutes -- including both 10-minute overtimes -- with 10 men following a red card. Utah Valley also survived a late penalty kick, taken in the 108th minute, that would have given CSUN the win.

On Sunday, the Wolverines and Titans were played the first 45 minutes scoreless before CSUF broke through with the game-winner early in the second half. Cal State Fullerton added a late score for the two-goal cushion en route to the win.

UP NEXT
The Wolverines will travel to Las Vegas next weekend for two neutral-site contests against West Coast Conference programs on UNLV's field at the Johann Memorial Classic. UVU will face Santa Clara on Thursday, Sept. 19 and No. 7 Saint Mary's on Sunday, Sept. 22.

ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
Canisius and Utah Valley will meet for the first time in program history in Friday's match. The Golden Griffins (1-2-0) are also the first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) program UVU will face. The Buffalo, New York school earned a win over Binghamton, 2-1, last Friday before dropping a 2-0 contest to Northern Kentucky two days later.

UC Irvine has played perhaps the most difficult schedule in the country having faced three of the top seven team's in this week's United Soccer Coaches poll already this season. The Anteaters, 0-3-1 pending a Friday contest at Creighton, opened at No. 7 Saint Mary's, falling 2-0, and also played Cal -- who is receiving votes in the poll -- to a 1-1 draw. Last week UCI hosted No. 5 Georgetown and traveled to No. 3 Stanford and lost both matches 1-0. Monday's match will be the first meeting between UVU and UC Irvine in Orem. The teams have split two prior contests.
