UVU travels to play Idaho State on Tuesday

OREM, Utah – Utah Valley's volleyball team travels to Pocatello, Idaho for their first away match of the season in a single-game night against Idaho State, Tuesday, September 3 at 6 p.m. MT.
 
UVU is looking for their first full-match win since their opening slate in the BYU Invitational this last weekend against BYU, Boise State and Marquette. The Wolverines capped the weekend with a single-set victory over Boise State (21-25, 25-27, 28-26, 14-25).
 
Historically, UVU has met Boise State 11 times, where the Wolverines have tallied eight of those wins and only three losses. Utah Valley marked a 5-0 sweep at home against the Broncos and an even 3-3 record at Boise State's Bronco gym.
 
Idaho State currently sits at a 2-1 record after weekend games against University at Albany, University of Nebraska-Omaha and Abilene Christian University. In the 2018 season, ISU went for a 19-14 overall record, with a 13-7 Big Sky conference record and a 1-1 closeout in the Big Sky Tournament against Sacramento State and Northern Arizona.
 
Makaila Jarema comes in against the Bengals as the first WAC Defensive Player of the Week for the 2019 season. Jarema collected this accolade after her performance against the BYU Cougars with eight blocks in only three sets. The senior middleblocker also went for seven blocks at the net against Boise State to post a WAC-high 1.80 blocks per set on the weekend. Jarema also currently leads the Wolverines with a .333% hitting average among the the UVU starters and holds the team-high 15 block assists.
 
The Wolverines are also led by sophomore Kazna Tarawhiti who has 42 kills in 10 sets, Jaysa Funk-Stratton from the right side with 57 total assists to average 5.70 assists per game, and Seren Merrill with 32 digs overall.
           
Following the single match-up against ISU, the Wolverines will return to Orem for the first home opener in the Wyndham Invitational, which will include games against Portland State, UC Davis and Utah. All tournament play will be hosted in Lockhart Arena, beginning September 6-7.
